Shooting Stars Wrestling #58 - 'Round Robin Challenge'

SHOOTING . . . STARS . . . WRESTLING !!!!

We get a recap of last weeks show, including CM Punk’s surprise return to SSW as he defeated Jeff Hardy for the SSW Genesis title.  HHH’s no show is highlighted, as is Brent Albright joining Sweet N Sour Incorporated by helping MVP defeat Samoa Joe.  

The opening promo airs to ‘FAR BEHIND’ by Lunatic Calm

The screen goes black and we can hear the crowd chanting ‘S-S-W!  S-S-W!  S-S-W!’  The camera comes up as the strobe lights go off through the arena and the camera scans the rowdy crowd, who are yelling and pumping their fists as they chant.  We go to ringside, where Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan are ready to bring you tonight’s show.  Tonight we into are going to have the ‘Round Robin Challenge’ for the SSW TV title between Elijah Burke, AJ Styles, Chris Jericho, and Bryan Danielson.  

However, they start talking about CM Punk’s surprising return to SSW last week when ‘MISERA CANTERE: THE BEGINNING’ by AFI hits and out comes PUNK to a rousing ovation.  Punk gets in the ring and gets down on one knee on the SSW logo in the middle of the ring as the fans throw streamers the ring.  Huge ‘C-M-PUNK! C-M-PUNK!’ and ‘WELCOME BACK!  WELCOME BACK!’ chants break out.  Punk lets the crowd die down, then talks about how he likes to think that he helped build this house.  Holding the SSW title has been a long time comin’ . . .

‘VIVA LA RAZA’ hits and out comes Eddie Guerrero!  Eddie says that he is happy for Punk, but that title shot should have been HIS!  He says that Punk would not be the champion if it was not for Eddie, and he thinks Punk should give him the first title shot.  Punk says he respects Eddie, and if Eddie wants a shot then he can have it.  This brings out Christian Cage to interrupt.  Cage says that Shane McMahon made a mistake last week by bringing in Punk.  That spot should belong to the ‘Instant Classic’!!!!  What the hell has CM Punk done????  

Punk says that Christian debuted like 5 minutes before him!  Meanwhile, in 2 weeks time he has held the WLW TV title and the SSW Genesis title . . . 2 WEEKS!  Everywhere he goes, he makes an impact.  Christian has had one match!!!!  Punk tells them to look around because this is the house that he built, and this is his show.  He tells Christian, plain and simple, CM Punk is just better . . . than . . . you!!!!  This brings out MVP and Larry Sweeney, who says they don’t want to compare won-loss records.  MVP is undefeated in SSW, and yet he gets no title shots!  Why?  It is time for MVP to get his due around here, and if he doesn’t get his title shot he is prepared to sit out the rest of his contract.

Shane comes out and says that this is not how he wanted to start the show.  Each man has a valid claim to wanting a title shot, not to mention that the former champion, Jeff Hardy, has a rematch coming.  So what is going to happen is right here next week we are going to have a 4 corner Survival match with the winner getting a shot at CM Punk coming up on July 16th in Philadelphia!  Next week it will be Christian Cage vs. Eddie Guerrero vs. Montel Vontavious Porter vs. Jeff Hardy!

IN THE BACK: Kelly Kelly interviews Nigel McGuiness about his win over Ole Anderson last week.  Nigel says that he did what he said he would do, and that is win the match.  Now he wants to know if the Andersons are man enough to accept his challenge for an NWA World tag title match.  He says that SSW is sponsoring the ‘Stars N Stripes Salute’ on July 4th, and he can’t think of a better place.  He challenges the Andersons to be here next week, so they can get a good look at the man that will be his partner.

Round Robin Challenge match 1

‘American Dragon’ Bryan Danielson
vs.
Chris Jericho

The Round Robin challenge gets kicked off with a bang as Danielson and Jericho put on a show.  Neither man gets the advantage in the early goings, but Jericho targets the back of Danielson and gains the advantage.  Danielson escapes the Walls of Jericho, then nearly gets a tapout victory when he hits the ‘Danielson Special’ (Tiger bomb into cross-arm breaker).  Jericho fights back with an enziguri, but then walks right into a roaring elbow by Danielson that knocks him silly.  Danielson goes for the flying headbutt, but Jericho moves and then goes for the codebreaker.  Danielson holds onto the ropes, causing Jericho to hit the back of his head hard on the mat, and Danielson locks on the Cattle Mutilation!!!!  Jericho cannot get to the ropes and has to tap out!!!!

PROMO.  We see Lance ‘Danger’ Cade on the set of a movie out in Los Angeles.  We see a stunt performed by another stunt man as Cade watches on, and he just scoffs at the person.  The stuntman pulls himself out of the airbag, and Cade is there to berate him and tell him what a terrible job he did.  Everyone else on the set just look at Cade like he is an idiot.  Cade says ‘Let Danger show you how it is done!’  Cade then tries to perform the stunt, but misses the bag totally!!!!  Everyone is making fun of Cade, who just lays on the ground and gives the thumbs up.  The promo is brought to you by Jillian Hall & Associates.

Round Robin Challenge Match 2

(champion) Elijah Burke
vs.
AJ Styles

Burke comes out intense, knowing he is fighting for his championship against all odds.  Styles is up for the task though, and he takes Burke outside with the superman dive early on.  Burke goes to the mat game to slow AJ down, but Styles rocks him with the best dropkick in wrestling.  Burke is in trouble, but he catches AJ out of nowhere with the 4-up combo followed by the outer limitz elbow.  AJ keeps kicking out, and Burke tries to finish him with the Elijah Express.  AJ moves, but Burke stops himself before crashing into the corner, only to be hit by the pele!  AJ turns up the heat, but Burke catches him with a half nelson backbreaker!  Burke goes for the Elijah Experience (codebreaker), but AJ blocks it and turns it into the Styles Clash!  STYLES CLASH BY AJ!!!!  AJ rolls him over and gets the 3 count!

IN THE BACK: Tyler Black approaches CM Punk in the back.  Punk looks around behind him for Jeff, but he is conspicuous by his absence.  Black tells Punk that he got lucky last week, but Punk says ‘Luck is for Losers’.  It seems like everyone in SSW wants to call him out since last week, but what people are forgetting is that it was CM Punk that helped build this place!  Punk accepts the challenge, then offers Black a handshake to seal the deal.  Black goes to take it but Punk slaps him in the face.  Punk tells Black that ‘YOU . . . GOT . . . PUNK’D!’  

Round Robin Challenge Match 3

Chris Jericho
vs.
AJ Styles

Jericho gains control early, taking advantage of the fact that AJ has just wrestled.  Jericho works him over, slapping him in the back of the head and taunting him as he goes along.  There is only so much AJ can take, and he fights back.  AJ knocks Jericho outside and then hits an Asai moonasult on him on the floor!  Back in the ring, Jericho hits the bulldog on AJ and then the Lionsault, but AJ kicks out.  Jericho charges in the corner but AJ gets the boot up then hits the ‘Phenomenon’ (quebrada into reverse DDT).  AJ misses the pele and accidentally takes out the ref, and Jericho takes the opportunity to go for a chair.  AJ manages to get the chair away from Jericho, but the ref sees him with the chair and calls for the bell, giving Jericho the win by DQ.

IN THE BACK: We see Kelly Kelly running down the hallway saying something is going on in the back.  She turns the corner and we see Samoa Joe beating the hell out of Brent Albright with a kendo stick.  Albright is a bloody mess but he fights back on Joe.  Joe tosses him into a parked car, shattering the windshield, then sits him in a chair and gives him the ‘Ole Ole’ kick, blasting his head into the car window!!!!  SSW officials come in to break it up, but Albright has to be carried out on a stretcher.

Round Robin Challenge Match 4

(champion) Elijah Burke
vs.
Chris Jericho

Now it is Jericho’s turn to wrestle back to back matches, and the more rested Burke takes advantage.  Burke controls the match, and actually gets some cheers from the fans, who really don’t know who to cheer for.  Burke tries to finish Jericho off, but Jericho dodges the outer limitz elbow and then hits a Lionsault for a 2 count!  Jericho goes for the Walls of Jericho, only to have it blocked by Burke.  Burke hits the Elijah Express but cannot cover, and when he finally does Jericho kicks out!  Burke goes to the top but Jericho catches him with a top rope huricanrana.  Jericho goes for the Codebreaker, but Burke blocks it and slingshots him into the corner.  Burke goes for the ‘Experience’ (codebreaker on exposed knees), but Jericho blocks his as well and turns it into the Walls of Jericho!!!!  Burke fights to get to the ropes, but just before he gets there Jericho pulls him back to the center of the ring and sits down on the move.  Burke taps out!!!!

As Jericho celebrates, Mike and Joe say that Burke is mathematically eliminated from the Challenge and we are now guaranteed a brand new TV champ!

IN THE BACK: Kelly Kelly is talking about what just happened in the back with Joe and Albright when up walks Brian Kendrick.  Kendrick puts his arm around her and introduces himself as ‘THE’ Brian Kendrick.  Kelly shrugs his arm off of her, but he tells her to take it easy.  The God of Gravity is here in SSW now.  Back where he belongs.  Now that he is on his own, it is time for THE Brian Kendrick to shine.  He blows her a kiss and then backs away  

Round Robin Challenge Match 5

(champion) Elijah Burke
vs.
‘American Dragon’ Bryan Danielson

Despite being eliminated from the chase, Burke tries to play the spoiler and take out Danielson.  They go back and forth, and Burke escapes the crossface chickenwing early in the match.  Burke scores with the 4-Up combo, knocking Danielson to the outside and Burke hits a baseball slide that knocks him into the first row.  Danielson starts to target the back of Burke, injured in the previous match, then he hits the super back suplex that nearly wins the match for him.  However, Burke kicks out and manages to score out of nowhere with the Elijah Experience!  Danielson kicks out!  Burke goes for the Elijah Express, but runs right into a running knee strike from Danielson that knocks him outside.  Burke is down, but when Danielson goes outside and tries to bring him back in, Burke throws up his hands and walks out!  Danielson tries to go after him, but will not risk a double countout so he slides back in.  Burke is counted out, giving Danielson the win!

IN THE BACK: Ted & Mike Dibiase talk about building a Dynasty in SSW.  They are the best tag team in the business today and they have a legacy.  They are not some wannabe reality stars.  They are glad that Miz and Morrison are closer together now, that is going to make it that much better when they beat them for ‘their’ belts.  Mike and Ted are interrupted as Miz and Morrison cut in with an episode of the ‘Dirt Sheet’, where they show Mike and Ted’s pictures on baby’s bodies being fed their bottle by Ted Dibiase Sr.  This enrages the Dynasty, who storms off the set.

Round Robin Challenge Match 6

‘American Dragon’ Bryan Danielson
vs.
AJ Styles

Before the next match, Chris Jericho comes down to watch the events first-hand.

It all comes down to this!  Danielson wins the match with a victory of any kind, while Styles can win the title with a pinfall, or tie for the lead with a DQ victory!  At the onset, it is clear that the DQ is not going to happen as both men shake hands and then proceed to wrestle it out on the mat.  Danielson is the first to take a big risk after knocking Styles outside, and he knocks him into the first row with a baseball slide.  Danielson then hits a springboard plancha onto AJ in the front row!!!!  Danielson tosses AJ back in the ring and gets him in the surfboard, but AJ manages to escape.  PELE BY AJ ON DANIELSON!!!!  AJ goes up top and hits the Spiral Tap on Danielson!!!!  1 . . . 2 . . . NOOOOOOO!  AJ goes for the Styles Clash, but Danielson picks him up and hits an Air Raid Crash, going right into a modified Anaconda Vice!  Danielson goes up top, but AJ comes out of nowhere with the flying armbar on Danielson!!!!  Danielson counters into a modified slam that sends both men crashing to the mat!!!!  The time keeper announces that we are a minute away from time limit expiring, and Jericho is jumping up and down in anticipation on the outside.  He goes to the time keeper and orders him to count down faster!!!!  In the ring, AJ is up and knocks Danielson down with a roaring clothesline!  AJ goes for the Styles Clash, but Jericho distracts him and Styles knocks Jericho off the apron to the floor!  AJ turns around and walks right into the ‘Danielson Special’ by Dragon (tiger bomb into cross arm breaker)!!!!  The clock is ticking down, and AJ is trying to hold on without tapping.  10 . . . 9 . . . 8 . . . AJ struggles to the ropes but can’t make it.  He raises his hand to tap . . . 4 . . . 3 . . . 2 . . . 1!!!!  The bell rings!!!!

Outside the ring, Jericho starts jumping for joy as he runs over and grabs the TV title.  Jeremy Borash announces the final score that Jericho has won the challenge by 1 point over Danielson!  Jericho celebrates with the TV title as Styles and Danielson eye each other down, but then shake hands afterward.
