WE ARE GOING BACK TO CALI as AEW is back in its home state this week …. We get a HUGE pyro explosion from the stage as the camera pans 10,000 strong in the HONDA CENTER as ‘DANNY CALIFORNIA’ by the Red Hot Chili Peppers plays on the loudspeakers …. Anaheim, California … IS … ALL ELITE!!


‘TERMINUS’ is a few short weeks away, and we join JOEY STYLES and PAT MCAFEE at the announce desk for a recap of AEW #44 …. Last week we saw WALTER defeat KURT ANGLE to advance in the United States tournament with the help of IMPERIUM, BRYAN DANIELSON revealed his team for the upcoming Survivor Series event, while also recruiting former adversary CODY RHODES to join forces with him …. THE ROCK agreed to fight ROMAN REIGNS, but it was a trick as REIGNS debuted JACOB FATU, who came out of the crowd and attacked ROCK causing him to be taken out on a stretcher …..


The show starts off with ROMAN REIGNS and JACOB FATU coming to the ring …. Just the two of them together are already the most dominant force in AEW …. It doesn’t matter what he wants, whether it’s the tag titles, the US title or the AEW title, he’s gonna get it …. Now that he has banishes THE ROCK from his ‘Island of Relevancy’, he wants what is rightfully his and that is an AEW title shot against SHAWN MICHAELS …. SHAWN MICHAELS hasn’t been heard of in a couple of weeks and people have their theories on why he has been gone, but if you want to know the real reason he wont show his face, it’s THEM!  REIGNS says he ain’t waiting in any line or paying any dues, because when you are the Tribal Chief of the Anoa’i, your dues have already been paid in blood …. Now that THE ROCK has been sent back to Hollywood, REIGNS will take his rightful place at the head of the AEW table …. REIGNS & FATU serve notice to the entire roster, and tells them to ‘ACKNOWLEDGE ME’ ….




MATCH 1: FINN BALOR vs. CODY RHODES ———— United States Title Tournament Semi-Finals:

This is a back and forth stalemate the whole way …. During the match we see IWA TV Champion BRYAN DANIELSON watching on a monitor …. CODY focuses his attack on the knee of BALOR, while BALOR works the ribs of CODY …. BALOR hits the Coup De Grace, but hurts his knee further in the process …. CODY gets a Figure Four, but BALOR manages to escape to the ropes …. BALOR evades the Cross Rhodes and attacks the ribs again, locking in a grounded abdominal stretch submission and forcing CODY to tap out!  BALOR advances to the finals ….


IN THE BACK –

RHEA RIPLEY promo …. She faces TESSA next week with the women’s title on the line …. TESSA BLANCHARD interrupts and the segment breaks down into an argument between the 2 …. Here comes CHARLOTTE FLAIR to interject, saying that she deserves a rematch after losing the title …. RIPLEY tells her to go the back of the line because next week is her time …. She can have a shot AFTER RIPLEY wins the title …. CHARLOTTE says she should be the automatic #1 contender, not have to be in some ridiculous gauntlet match …. RIPLEY and CHARLOTTE get in each others face but TESSA attacks RIPLEY from behind!  CHARLOTTE doesn’t even try to save RIPLEY as TESSA puts the boots to her, and she just stands by and watches …. TESSA tosses RIPLEY through the interview set, THEN LAYS HER OUT WITH THE BUZZSAW DDT ON THE CONCRETE!!!!  CHARLOTTE just looks down at RIPLEY and then walks off after staring down TESSA for a tense moment ….


MATCH 2: THE BRISCOES (Mark & Jay) vs. SMOKIN GUNNS (Billy & Bart Gunn) ———— Tag Team Match:

BRISCOES get the win here after a spike Jay Driller on Bart Gunn in 9 minutes ….


Up next, IWA World Television Champion ‘American Dragon’ BRYAN DANIELSON comes out to the ring …. DANIELSON cuts a promo calling out CODY RHODES for tapping out earlier tonight …. He says that is why CODY needs to join him, because he can learn from DANIELSON …. Just like everyone he picked for his Survivor Series team needs to follow his lead ….

DANIELSON is interrupted as WALTER’s music hits!  WALTER comes out to get face to face with DANIELSON, and he says they are a lot alike …. He says that people like DANIELSON and KURT ANGLE are a lot like him in that they respect the sport of wrestling …. But WALTER tells DANIELSON that the only reason that he picked him for his Survivor Series team was so he wouldn’t have to fight him …. DANIELSON says that he picked WALTER because if he didn’t pick WALTER, then WALTER would have been left out of the event …. DANIELSON says WALTER should thank him, but to show that he respects WALTER, he will be in his corner for his match with AJ ….


MATCH 3: WALTER vs. AJ STYLES ———— United States Title Tournament Semi-Finals:

WALTER and AJ put on an EPIC match …. It goes back and forth the whole way, with neither man willing to give an inch …. WALTER attacks the neck of AJ, hitting moves like the sleeper suplex and trying to tap AJ out with the rear naked choke …. Likewise, AJ targets the leg of WALTER, setting him up with the Calf Killer and nearly getting the submission …. DANIELSON tries to get involved, but the interference backfires, allowing AJ to roll WALTER up out of nowhere!  1 … 2 … 3!!!!  HOLY SHIT!  AJ just eliminated WALTER!!!! ….


POST MATCH: WALTER is fucking HOT about this and he screams at DANIELSON in German …. DANIELSON tries to plead his case and say that he was just trying to help WALTER and that they are on the ‘same side’ …. WALTER isn’t having any of that shit and he chops THE FUCK out of DANIELSON!!!!  WALTER picks him up and powerbombs him hard to the mat!  WALTER walks out, but the fans are chanting ‘ONE MORE TIME’, so WALTER comes back to the ring and powerbombs DANIELSON 2 more times!  WALTER leaves DANIELSON laying ….


IN THE BACK –

QUINN MCKAY tries to get comments from CHARLOTTE FLAIR about what happened earlier, when she stood by and watches TESSA attack RHEA RIPLEY …. CHARLOTTE asks why she is supposed to help RIPLEY?  Because they’re both ‘good guys’????  CHARLOTTE wants to make one thing clear, she isn’t ‘good’ …. RIPLEY is in her way of getting another title shot, so she just let TESSA do the work for her in getting RHEA out of the way …. CHARLOTTE doesn’t care HOW it happens, she just knows that she should be next in line for a title shot ….

LIV MORGAN debuts and says she is here because other women deserve to get their chance …. She calls CHARLOTTE a ‘black hole’ that swallows up all the opportunities in AEW, but CHARLOTTE says “Make no mistake, with or without the belt, she IS ‘the opportunity’” …. LIV slaps the shit out of CHARLOTTE!  With CHARLOTTE standing there in shock, LIV says she wants to be next in line for ‘The Opportunity’ and walks off leaving CHARLOTTE standing there fuming ….


MATCH 4: ‘Hangman’ ADAM PAGE vs. MALAKAI BLACK ——— Singles Match

This is supposed to be MALAKAI BLACK vs. PAGE, but after PAGE comes out to the ring, BLACK throws him a curveball …. PAGE won’t be facing BLACK tonight, instead he will be facing THIS MAN: ….




… IT’S THE FIEND!!!! THE FIEND comes out with his eerie entrance, but PAGE wastes no time …. HE DIVES OUT OF THE RING ONTO THE FIEND AS HE MAKES HIS ENTRANCE!!!!  


MATCH 4: ‘Hangman’ ADAM PAGE vs. THE FIEND ————Singles Match:

This is another war …. After they brawl around the ring for a little bit, THE FIEND takes over and dominates due to PAGE being weakened from his match against BRODY KING last week …. THE FIEND re-opens the stitches on PAGE’s forehead, and he is a bloody mess before too long …. PAGE rallies, finally pinning THE FIEND after hitting 2 consecutive Buckshot lariats!


POST MATCH:  PAGE once again falls victim to the numbers game as the HOUSE OF BLACK attacks …. BUT HERE COMES SHAWN MICHAELS!!!!  MICHAELS COMES TO THE RESCUE OF PAGE!!!!  HBK hits the ring and starts to fight off the HOUSE OF BLACK!  It is eluded to that HOUSE OF BLACK were responsible for HBK’s disappearance as PAGE and HBK clear the ring!  This leaves PAGE and HBK face to face, and HBK gives PAGE a little nod before leaving the ring ….


IN THE BACK –

We get a face to face between FINN BALOR vs. AJ STYLES ahead of next weeks match for the UNITED STATES title …. BALOR talks about how he never lost the title and AJ is gonna have to go through him to get it …. AJ says that he wouldn’t have it any other way ….



MATCH 5: CHARLOTTE FLAIR vs. LIV MORGAN ———— Singles Match:

LIV MORGAN has a really good showing here, but CHARLOTTE is a little more vicious than usual …. CHARLOTTE gets the win after forcing MORGAN to submit to the Figure 8, but she refuses to release the hold after the match which leads to the ref reversing the decision!  MORGAN gets the win, which causes CHARLOTTE to snap and continue the attack on MORGAN …. MORGAN has to be helped out of the ring by the ref ….


Before the main event, AEW tag team champions FTR come out but they are still wearing their ‘REVIVAL’ ring gear …. DAX HARDWOOD cuts a promo and is pissed because LOS GEURREROS stole their new ring gear last week so they have to wear their old ‘THE REVIVAL’ ring gear …. HARDWOOD vows revenge on the GEURREROS, but first they are going to take care of THE STEINERS tonight and become double tag team champions because they are the best tag team on this planet!


MAIN EVENT: FTR (Dax Hardwood & Cash Wheeler) w/ Dan Lambert vs. RICK & SCOTT STEINER ———— AEW TAG TEAM TITLES vs. GFW TAG TEAM TITLES

The action goes back and forth here …. STEINERS dominate early on, but FTR take over off a distraction from DAN LAMBERT and get the heat on RICK …. Hot tag to SCOTT, who runs wild hitting a Frankensteiner on HARDWOOD followed by a tilt-a-whirl slam on WHEELER …. RICK is back in and they hit some double teams, and they set WHEELER up for the Doomsday Bulldog!  They hit it!  SCOTT makes the cover … but WHEELER isn’t the legal man!  In the confusion, HARDWOOD grabs one of the AEW tag title belts and KO’s SCOTT with it!  1 … 2 … RICK breaks up the pin!  From here it breaks down into a wild brawl, going to the outside of the ring where both teams are finally counted out ….

POST MATCH: With both teams brawling to the back, suddenly LOS GEURREROS show up at ringside!  They go snooping around for things, and they find the AEW tag team titles ‘just lying around’ …. EDDIE picks them up and shrugs, handing one of them to CHAVO and they hold them up to get a pop from the crowd ….


FINAL SEGMENT:

We close the show with a promo from ‘Hangman’ ADAM PAGE …. He says that the HOUSE OF BLACK always has the numbers …. There is only one man that can help him, and it’s the last person he thought he would ask …. The camera pans to reveal SHAWN MICHAELS sitting there listening to him …. PAGE offers his hand to HBK and asks him to be his partner next week against HOUSE OF BLACK …. HBK stands up and says “I’m your Huckleberry”, but instead of shaking his hang, HBK slaps PAGE really hard on the shoulder and then walks off, leaving PAGE standing there ….
