• We also see highlights from last weeks show, including the AEW debut of EDGE as well as FINN BALOR defeating X-PAC to retain the TNT title ….


HUGE pyro explodes from the stage and entranceway as 10,000 strong are on their feet in the AEW ‘Asylum’ in Southern California …. Mauro Renallo and Corey Graves join us ringside as LOS ANGELES … IS … ALL ELITE!

We get a lot of hype from the announcers about the BIG matches tonight, which include THE REVIVAL getting their tag title shot against HALL & NASH as well as CODY vs. DANIEL BRYAN in a bullrope match …. In addition, we will have some great womens action as well ….


LANCE STORM comes out to start the show …. “IF I can be serious for a minute …” STORM wants to discuss EDGE showing up last week and laying him out with a Spear …. He is the best technical wrestler in AEW, but the problem with that is that AEW isn’t interested in technical excellence …. This place is a zoo and someone like STORM is under-appreciated in an environment like this …. EDGE comes out to a pop and says that last week was about making a statement …. This week he will gladly prove STORM wrong and prove that this is his show now ….


PROMO:

THE N.W.O is in the back and we see NASH is on crutches …. SHAWN MICHAELS cuts a promo on STEVE AUSTIN and THE ROCK both putting their hands on him on the July 4th show, but he has the satisfaction of knowing he ruined their main event …. There is only ONE main event around here and that is the ‘Heartbreak Kid’ SHAWN MICHEALS …. And the AEW title on his shoulder is all he needs to prove it …. NASH then cuts a promo about how THE REVIVAL took a cheap shot on him and hurt his knee, so tonight X-PAC will be taking his place in the main event ….


RONDA ROUSEY w/ Shayna Baszler vs. TEGAN NOX
This is a result of ROUSEY attacking NOX on the last AEW show …. ROUSEY toys with TEGAN with strikes and submissions, but this allows TEGAN to fire up for a short time, hitting the Shiniest Wizard for a close 2 count …. ROUSEY regains control quickly and taps out NOX with the armbar ….

ROUSEY continues the assault after the match, locking on the armbar again and refusing to let go …. CHARLOTTE comes out, but ROUSEY dares her to touch her because they have a no-contact rule …. Instead, BASZLER attacks CHARLOTTE and they fight …. From the other side of the ring comes TONI STORM (who was also attacked by Rousey) with a chair and she wears RONDA out with the chair and sends her packing!!!!

We get a promo for AEW: ’99 in the Shade’ …. This show will take place in OAKLAND, CA at Oracle Arena ….


EDGE vs. LANCE STORM
Edge wins a competitive match with STORM following the Spear ….


PROMO:

The ROCK comes out to the ring to a HUGE pop …. ROCK talks about the match with STEVE AUSTIN on July 4th, and says that he is sure their paths will cross again down the line …. ROCK has tunnel vision right now and that vision is locked on SHAWN MICHAELS …. They have unfinished business, and THE ROCK wants his title match at ’99 in the Shade’ and he wants it INSIDE A STEEL CAGE!

VELVETEEN DREAM comes out and interrupts the ROCK, talking trash about whose star is burning the brightest …. DREAM wants ROCK to say his name, but ROCK says he doesn’t swing like that …. ‘You sick Ffffffffffreak!’ …. DREAM says he wants to go ‘one on one with the great one’, and we’ve got an impromptu match!


THE ROCK vs. VELVETEEN DREAM
DREAM stalls and plays mind games at the beginning, then we get to it …. Match doesn’t last long, as we get a brief flurry by DREAM followed by ROCK taking over …. ROCK hits the Rock Bottom and then finishes DREAM off with the People’s Elbow ….

POST MATCH: As ROCK gets the win, SHAWN MICHAELS slides in the ring behind him …. Sweet Chin Music lays out the ROCK …. HBK has a mic and says as far as ROCK’s challenge for a steel cage match, his answer is ‘No’.


Up next, the ring is set up for THE DIRT SHEET with UWF world tag team champions THE MIZ & JOHN MORRISON along with their entourage of MARYSE, TAYA VALKYRIE and ‘bouncer’ ALEXANDER HAMMERSTONE.  Tonight’s guest is TNT champion FINN BALOR …. BALOR tries to talk about beating X-PAC to retain his title last week, but MIZ & MORRISON constantly interrupt him …. MIZ roasts BALOR because he may be a champion, but he’s NOT a world champion like them …. BALOR says they wouldn’t be champions if not for HAMMERSTONE, and he tells one of them to step up and challenge him then …. Maybe he should be talking to HAMMERSTONE instead ….

They are interrupted by the arrival of KEITH LEE, RICOCHET and MIRO making separate entrances …. All 3 men declare their intentions to be TNT champion and BALOR says that he can face them all at the same time or one at a time, it doesn’t matter ….

MIRO takes a shot at KEITH LEE, which starts a brawl between the 3 guys while BALOR watches …. In the melee, MIZ grabs BALOR from behind and hits the Skull Krushing Finale to lay out the TNT champion …. MIZ & MORRISON high-tail it while RICOCHET hits a huge dive off the top onto LEE & MIRO on the floor …. This sends us to the break ….


PROMO:

We get a recap of the intense feud between ASUKA and BRITT BAKER over the IWA World title …. We see ASUKA denying BAKER’s challenge for an ‘I QUIT’ rematch, instead challenging her to a HELL IN A CELL match!  That match will take place at ‘Chris Jericho’s Rager at Sea’ on August 9th.


Right on queue, CHRIS JERICHO and the rest of the INNER CIRCLE make a surprise appearance, coming down through the crowd and sitting in the front row .... The announcers speculate that JERICHO could be on hand to scout possible additions to his Rager at Sea show ....


BETH PHOENIX vs. EMBER MOON
BETH is making her AEW in-ring debut here, facing a tough challenger in MOON …. The two have a good match, but BETH wins with the Glam-Slam ….

After the match, BETH says that was a great video package, but she is still waiting for an answer from ASUKA …. She says for her to fight someone instead of BRITT BAKER, because she knows she can beat BAKER …. She promises she wont be able to beat PHOENIX and she wants a shot at the title at ’99 in the Shade’.


AEW Tag Team Titles: (champions) SCOTT HALL & X-PAC vs. THE REVIVAL (Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder)
Nash is still on crutches selling the knee injury from last week …. X-PAC fills in nicely and we have a good tag team match …. THE REVIVAL looks like they are on the verge of winning the tag titles after they hit the Shatter Machine on HALL, but when that happens NASH drops the crutches and shows that he is not really injured after all and he grabs DAWSON and drills him with a Jack knife powerbomb!  X-PAC comes in and covers DAWSON for the 3 count as WILDER is unable to make the save in time and the champs retain ….


It is almost main event time, and we get the arrival of ‘The Machine’ BRIAN CAGE …. We see highlights of CAGE turning on HULK HOGAN during their tag team match against THE HORSEMEN at the July 4th Sizzler show …. CAGE is dressed in a ‘Hulk-a-mania’ shirt and carrying a cardboard cutout of HOGAN …. CAGE sets the cut-out in the ring and cuts a promo on it as if he was talking to HOGAN, mimicking HOGAN’s speech talking about training, saying prayers and taking vitamins …. Turns out all that was bullshit because HOGAN wasn’t immortal, he’s not even a man …. He’s certainly not a MACHINE!  Never meet your heroes, because they will always disappoint you ….

CAGE destroys the cutout of HOGAN, and he rips off the Hulk-a-mania shirt …. He calls HOGAN a liar because he has been feeding this bullshit to gullible people his whole career …. And when he is done with HOGAN he will look like this ripped up ‘Hulk-a-mania’ T-shirt ….


As CAGE takes his leave from the ring, he stops where the INNER CIRCLE are seated at ringside and stares down CHRIS JERICHO for a moment as JERICHO nods his approval ....


Texas Bullrope Match: CODY RHODES w/ Brandi Rhodes vs. ‘American Dragon’ DANIEL BRYAN
Of course CODY stalls with getting the bullrope on his wrist, and BRANDI is jawing with BRYAN …. This is pinfall or stoppage, no corner touching …. CODY takes advantage of BRANDI’s distraction to attack BRYAN, and we get brawling …. BRYAN rips off CODY’s t-shirt and chops the fuck out of him until his chest is red, plus lights him up with kicks …. CODY is the first man to bleed as BRYAN uses the cowbell to bust him open …. BRYAN unfolds a chair in the ring and goes up top, but CODY uses the bullrope to pull BRYAN off the top and he falls onto the unfolded chair …. CODY attacks the knee and locks BRYAN in the figure four but he wont quit …. BRYAN fights back with the ‘Yes’ kicks and then drills CODY with a buzzsaw kick for a 2 count …. BRYAN up top for the diving headbutt, but CODY has the cowbell and puts it in the way, hitting BRYAN in the head and now BRYAN is busted open!  CODY attacks the cut and hits the Beautiful Disaster followed by the Cross Rhodes BUT BRYAN KICKS OUT!  CODY loads up the elbow pad and goes for the Bionic Elbow, but BRYAN avoids it and hits a Regal Plex onto the chair in the ring!  BRYAN starts up a ‘YES’ chant as he waits in the corner nails the running Busaiku Knee strike!  1 … 2 … CODY kicks out!  BRYAN takes the bullrope and ties CODY up in a crucifix position, then starts unloading, raining down elbow strikes on CODY’s head!!!!  CODY ISN’T RESPONDING!  BRANDI THROWS IN THE TOWEL!!!! ….

Officials tend to both men as BRANDI is nearly in tears as she rushes to her husbands side …. A bloody DANIEL BRYAN starts up a ‘YES!’ chant again as he celebrates his win ….

I agree Lance Storm is under appreciated.
