Jesse Ventura: "You don't get it do ya Schiavone? Slaughter pinned Shiek in a tag team match! So what? He can't win the title that way! You better believe The Iron Shiek will be ready in Toronto!"

Quarter-final Match: Bob Backlund vs Minoru Suzuki

Suzuki’s bouncing and raring to go. Backlund is poised and focused. Wada rings the bell and both men rush in. Backlund leads with a kick and Suzuki goes straight to the forearms. Both men exchange and we’ve started hot here. Backlund goes for a kick which is unwise against the Pancrase veteran who catches it and dumps him. Seated is not where you want to be when Suzuki approaches. Backlund backs up to the corner and Suzuki attacks with knees. Sends him corner-to-corner and Suzuki teases a splash before stopping and slapping Backlund. Blatant disrespect and the look Backlund gives is one of contemplation about how he’s going to handle this. Returning fire with a slap seems to be a good way. Suzuki’s mad, but Backlund’s ready and the two lock up to strike. Backlund takes the advantage and Suzuki is out to the apron where Backlund starts throwing.

Suzuki grabs an armbar over the ropes and both men end up outside. Wada gets caught up in the fun and knocked off his feet as the two battle for control at ringside. The back of Backlund’s head hitting the ringpost. Suzuki who’s not exactly known for his upstanding sportsmanship grabs a chair and closes in on Backlund. He hits him with it as he leans against the post. Suzuki back in the ring for a rest and Wada follows him. Backlund is still a while away as he’s being tended to on the floor.

Suzuki poses for the crowd while his opponent struggles on the outside. Wada finally decides a count might be in order and that’s what triggers Backlund to get up. He gets as far as the apron before Suzuki boots him off and sends him flying down to the guard rail. Suzuki follows and sinks the boots in. The chair obviously proving to have been a sound strategic decision here. So sound that Suzuki decides to grab another one. Wada does something about it this time, trying to wrest it from Suzuki grasp. It doesn’t work, but at least he tried. Luckily Backlund has a better result with the big boot he sends Suzuki’s way.

Backlund in a position to attack, throws his all into a kick and then collapses. Both men down. All three if you count Wada. They all rise, Wada heads for the safety of the squared circle as Backlund and Suzuki decide to stay outside. Backlund on top and it looks like Suzuki’s been busted open from Backlunds boot to the chair. A brainbuster on the floor seems like a reasonable thing to do here and Suzuki being inverted and having the blood rushing to his head has made it come out of his head a bit more. Both men spilling a bit of red now.

Backlund throws Suzuki in and dares him to rise. He tries but is met with a kick. Wada starts counting Suzuki out. He starts to rise and Backlund starts to kick. Backlund sends him corner-to-corner and continues the assault. Tries sending him again, but Suzuki counters it and ends up grabbing a sleeper hold. Can’t quite lock the arms and Backlund grabs one and drops it over his shoulder. Backlund keeps kicking, but Suzuki keeps coming! Backlund grabs the arm and with it, an armbar. He’s got it tight and the eyes roll back!

Suzuki caught here and has to either get out or tap out very soon. Backlund eyes can only go so far back in his head! Suzuki finds the ropes. Backlund breaks and goes back to the kicks that have served him so well in this match. Backdrop hold attempt but Suzuki lands favourably and then fires back with a knee to take Backlund down. Both men down, they crawl to each other and it’s time to exchange some headbutts. Headbutts are dangerous so they switch to plain old humiliation with the slaps.

Suzuki gets a long run of unanswered blows and then uses the window it creates for a Gotch-style piledriver. He’s taken too much of a beating to capitalise right away and Backlund has recovered enough to kick out at 2 by then time a cover is made. Backlund rushes in with a kick but Suzuki finally has him scouted as he blocks and then knees him in the gut. Octopus stretch applied by Suzuki!

Backlund works to free his head from the leg and then throws Suzuki over. Both men fighting to get up and Backlund is first. Slap exchanges! These are getting harder. They switch to the legs as Backlund  lands a kick and the catches Suzuki’s, driving him into the corner and then following him in with a step-up knee. Suzuki flops to the mat. Backlund scrapes him off it and then delivers a spinning brainbuster. One would think it’s time for a cover but Backlund opts for a backdrop instead. That could be it. 1.....2......  what?! Backlund pulls Suzuki up.  He lines up for another kick and decides to cover after that one. Kickout at 1 by Suzuki! He’s found his fighting spirit and goes straight after Backlund like a rabid, slap-happy dog. Backlund regains control and drills him with another kick. Another backdrop attempt but Suzuki manages to knee his way out of it. Backlund comes in with a slap which Suzuki ducks and grabs a sleeper. Sleeper takedown from it and Backlund’s got that hold in tight. Backlund is looking for the submission win as we see Bam Bam Bigelow approach ringside watching on.

NJPW Quarter-Finals: Road to Wrestle Kingdom 9Gnj9IT

Backlund sees Bigelow and releases the hold. Backlund and Bigelow have words opening up the door for Suzuki who comes behind Backlund and applies the Rear Naked Choke!
Backlund grabs an arm and tries to fight his way out, but unfortunately for him, Suzuki still has the other one around his neck. Backlund fading...... Faded...... He's out!!! Suzuki wins and advances to the Semi-Finals!

NJPW Quarter-Finals: Road to Wrestle Kingdom DgSQd0O

Tony Schiavone: "Stop me if you have heard this one before, but give the assist to Bam Bam Bigelow there!"

Jesse Ventura: "Ohhhh come on Schiavone! Bigelow never laid a finger on anyone! Its not his fault that Howdy Doody released the hold! That's on Backlund!"

Tony Schiavone: "Nonetheless,  Suzuki advances on to next week and the Semi-Finals!"

Grudge Match: Hangman Page  vs "Dr. D" David Schultz

Schultz jumps him from behind and pounds away, then chokes Hangman down with his own jacket. Irish whip, and Schultz with a clothesline for a two count, followed by more choking. Schultz heads to the second rope and drops a fist across the forhead. Whip to the corner, with authority, then choking across the middle rope. The action heads to the floor, and Schultz bashes Hangman with a chair. Hangman is quickly wearing the crimson mask. Hangman stumbles around, getting kicked in the head every time he tries to return to the ring. Schultz takes a bite out of the foreheax then comes off the second rope with an elbow drop. Schultz chooses to play to the crowd before covering, and only gets two because of it. Hangman with a rake of the eyes and a pair of roundhouse rights. Hangman with a choke lift, followed by a running clothesline and an elbow drop for a two count, pulling Schultz up before the three. Hangman with a scoop slam, followed by the leg drop, and again he pulls Schultz up at two as Schiavonesays on commentarythat Hangmandidnt come here to win this match..... he came to fight! Hangman tosses Schultz out of the ring, then rams him into the ring post and both men are bleeding pretty good. Whip to the corner, but Schultz charges back out with a clothesline. Schultz heads to the top rope, but he misses an elbow drop. Hangman with a clothesline, and Schultz rolls out if the ring. Hangman scales up the turnbuckles...... CROSS BODY TO SHULTZ! The two begin brawling all around ringside as the ref counts them both out!

Tony Schiavone: "We know Schultz is as nasty as they come. But tonight, I believe Hangman Page proved that he too, can put up the good fight! And if you ask me..... the war between those two is just getting started!"
