Tony Schiavone: "Not only that, but your going to see Chris Benoit defend the NJPW Super Juniors title against Tiger Mask! The British Bulldogs defend the NJPW tag titkes against Bullet Club members, The Gunn Club! And speaking of the Bullet Club,  the leader, Jay White, defends his newly won, NWA Super Juniors World title here tonight against Rey Mysterio Jr! A great night of action ahead, do let's no wait any longer, let's get you up to the ring gor our opening contest!"

Chris Benoit vs Tiger Mask for the NJPW Junior Title

They lock up, they grapple hard in a standing position, and Benoit takes Tiger Mask to the ropes with some hard forearms across the upper back, but Tiger Mask comes back with a spin kick that puts him down. Right up from that, and Benoit takes Tiger Mask down with a waistlock. Up to a cravate, then snapmared over and into a chinlock. Tiger Mask stands it up quickly, reverses to a top wristlock. Benoit trying to get the position back, but Tiger Mask changes to a standing wristlock, twisting the arm. Benoit flips out of that and into his own wristlock, then Tiger turns it back around and takes Benoit down to the mat.

Benoit with a forearm shot to get out, then he goes to the arm, then drops Tiger with a double chop to the chest for one. Benoit quickly picks it back up and hits a gutwrench suplex for two. Benoit targeting the leg now, going to the knee specifically, draping it over the rope and working Tiger down to the mat, where he stomps away as Tiger’s leg is twisted in the ropes. Referee tries to get Tiger out, but Benoit takes another shot.

Benoit staying on the knee, dropping his own knee down into it to keep Tiger Mask grounded. Benoit works on the mat, and Tiger counters and reverses, turning things around, but Benoit gets the leg under control again as they stand up and rains down forearm shots and another shot to the knee, draped over the middle rope. Benoit is relentless in his attack here, but the referee intervenes and Tiger Mask gets another chance to start fresh.

So Benoit just goes right back to the knee, taking Tiger Mask down and into a leglock. Benoit releases that and stomps the knee down into the wood and steel of the wrestling ring. Benoit with more shots to the knee, then he cranks back on the ankle, positioning his weight on Tiger’s knee at the same time.

Tiger Mask trying to counter out, and eventually he does, then he starts kicking Benoit to the legs. Benoit goes down in the corner. Tiger Mask limping a bit, but back in this thing. Benoit goes to the midsection, then looks for a suplex, but Tiger Mask slides down. Benoit catches him coming back and hits a hard back suplex, then a cradle tombstone piledriver! Benoit up top for the diving headbutt, he flies across the ring and it connects!

The fans think the match is over. 1......2......  Benoit pulls Tiger Mask up before the referee can count three! ANOTHER cradle tombstone from Benoit, and he’s going back up again. This time the diving headbutt misses!

Both men are down and the count is on. Benoit going for a figure four, as he’s first back to his feet, and he gets it on. Tiger Mask struggling in the hold, and Benoit trying to add more pressure to the worked-over knee, grasping it with his hands and pulling back. Tiger Mask gets the bottom rope, but Benoit goes to put it right back on, but Tiger Mask kicks him away, and again. Benoit kicks up in the corner, comes back out, rolls Tiger up, and GETS THE PIN!

Opening Round Matchup: Minoru Suzuki vs Kenta Kobashi

Suzuki has this grin on his face, knowing he’s facing a man who’s supposed to be a tough guy, a big badass, and he is Minoru Suzuki, a real badass who eats tough guys for breakfast. Suzuki has all the possible confidence to him starting this match, and he ducks the first couple Kobashi chops and slaps him in the face, then arrogantly just drops down and rolls away from one.

Kobashi, for his part, shows no fear of Suzuki, either. He wants a knuckle lock with the smaller man, and Suzuki obliges. Suzuki with a quick pin attempt, then he goes for a triangle right away. He rolls that into a cross armbreaker, and Kobashi gets out. Suzuki smiles and sticks his tongue out. Kobashi nods. Kobashi with a side headlock, really grinding on it. Suzuki trying to get out, trying to roll through it, but Kobashi hangs on. Suzuki trying to turn it over into a headscissors, but Kobashi is simply too strong. They stand up, Kobashi still has the headlock on. Suzuki goes for the leg, still can’t break the headlock. Finally, a rope break forces the break. But Kobashi hangs on to an arm, runs them to the ropes, and lands a knee to the body, then goes for a big overhand chop to the chest but Suzuki, knowing the danger, rolls away. Kobashi goes for the knife edge with Suzuki on the apron, Minoru ducks, but catches an overhand chop to the side of the head.

The fight goes to the floor. Suzuki rammed back-first into the guardrail, then Kobashi goes back to the side headlock on the floor. Kobashi creatively drags Suzuki back into the ring without releasing the hold, a real struggle, but he wants to wear Suzuki down with this headlock, or force him to give up. It also takes away the smaller Suzuki’s speed advantage.Kobashi wrenching on the side headlock. Suzuki gets to the corner, breaks the hold, and a series of Kobashi’s chops land. Suzuki shouts in Kobashi’s face, and Kobashi unloads with the rapid fire chops, then a spinning chop to the jaw. Suzuki goes down in a heap, but before he knows it, Kobashi is charging in with an uppercut, then a knee.

Suzuki comes back with the armbreaker over the top rope. That gives him the opening to take over, and he does. Kobashi reverses a whip off the ropes, Suzuki hits a crossbody that Kobashi fights on the way down, then goes for another cross armbreaker, with Kobashi keeping his hands locked to block it. But he can’t do it for too long, and his grip breaks momentarily, before he grabs it again, then loses it again. Kobashi totally loses it the second time, and has to scramble for the ropes.

Suzuki hovers over Kobashi and dropkicks him in the arm, then stomps the arm and talks some mess. Kick to the chest. Kobashi up to his knees, then standing, but Suzuki is going after the arm, laughing all the while. Kick to the arm. Kobashi up and goes for a chop, missing badly. So Suzuki keeps control.

Kobashi shaking his right hand, trying to get some feeling back in the arm, as Suzuki paces around confidently. Three-smack combo from Suzuki, he tries for the arm again. They come to a standstill, and Kobashi dares Suzuki to fight him head-on. They bump skulls and stare it down. Suzuki slaps Kobashi, Kobashi back, they trade for a moment and Minoru targets the arm again, getting another armbar on, stretching the fingers out for added pressure. Kobashi gets the ropes again.

But Suzuki stays on the arm, torturing Kobashi, who has to reach out and get the ropes again. Suzuki feigns a slap and kicks Kobashi in the chest, then slaps him and busts the arm over the shoulder twice, but Kobashi grabs a sleephold! Then turns that into a suplex. Suzuki down, rolls out to the apron. Kobashi struggles up, holding his arm and wrist in pain.

Out to the ramp now, and Kobashi looks for a suplex there, but Suzuki grabs a sleephold of his own. He rides Kobashi down to the runway, and they fall off to the floor with Kenta trying to escape. Suzuki gets up first, and staggers around ringside before getting back into the ring with Kobashi still down on the floor. Suzuki waits, bouncing around.

Kobashi rolls in. Slowly to his feet. Suzuki fakes coming in, and then unleashes a combo to the stomach and a high kick. Running dropkick in the corner, right on the button. Suzuki brings Kobashi out to center ring, looks around, and hooks and hits the Gotch piledriver. 1......2........3!

NJPW Heavyweight Title Tournament: Road to Wrestle Kingdom DqRX0a9

Tony Schiavone: "One helluva battle there between two of Japan's toughest men. Fans, for those of you unaware of Minoru Suzuki, he is as tough as they come. He loves a good fight. And he will be a force moving forward in this tournament."

Opening Round: Bob Backlund vs Jimmy Snuka

Tie up and Backlund is immediately sent to the floor and stomped down as Snuka stands tall. Backlund comes right back and sends Snuka out to the floor before pounding him on the way back in. Backlund punches him in the head and chokes away with the ropes a bit. Snuka comes back with a front facelock which he transitions into a chinlock to keep control. Backlund fight up but has his shoulder sent into the post to stop the comeback dead in its tracks. Snuka tries to send the shoulder in again but gets sent face first into the buckle instead. A backdrop puts Bob on the floor and in trouble. Back in and Snuka drops a top rope double ax handle for two.

Backlund is dropped throat first on the top rope for two but he comes back with a fast rollup for two.

A suplex by Snuka gets a delayed one count and both guys are exhausted. Backlund avoids a charge in the corner and hooks an abdominal stretch. The hold stays on for awhile but Snuka makes the rope. Snuka hip tosses Backlund up and over to the floor. Once outside Snuka hits Backlund in the back, sending Backlund into the corner post. Backlund is busted open and after he gets back in, Snuka pounds him right back to the floor.

Back in once again and Backlund gets in a kick to the chest to put both guys down. Backlund is back up first and is all fired up. He throws Snuka out to the floor and sends him into the steel barricade and then into the post. Now Snuka is busted open and Backlund pounds away at the cut. Snuka comes back with a low blow to get himself a breather and now it’s Backlund in trouble. Snuka goes up top but gets slammed back down to the mat. A middle ropecross body by  Backlund gets two but Snuka sends him flying out of the ring, taking out the ref.

Snuka tosses Backlund back inside, and follows him in with a steel chair, only to miss a chair shot in the corner. Now Backlund gets the chair and smashes it over Snukas head twice in a row,. Bob goes up to the top rope again and a high cross body is FINALLY enough to keep Snuka  down for the pinfall.

NJPW Heavyweight Title Tournament: Road to Wrestle Kingdom BRbSiDU

Tony Schiavone: "You may be saying to yourself that was uncharacteristic attitudes by both Snuka and Backlund there. But in all reality if your not willing to go that extra mile, and perhaps get a little dirty, you won't go far in this tournament in my opinion!"

The Georgia Dome explodes as we get an impromptu appearance from the NWA World champion,  Seth Rollins! 60,000 strong sing Rollins song as he soaks it up.

NJPW Heavyweight Title Tournament: Road to Wrestle Kingdom Cjqtld9

Seth Rollins: "Georgia.... you sound so nice singing my song! BAHAHAHAHA! Speaking of signing, there's many people around the NWA singing the same old song. Over in the WWF you have Randy Savage singing the blues about not having this title anymore. Lex Luger sings Why Can't We Be Friends to his buddy Stinger. We even have world music being sang as that big Russian, Nikita sings something we can't understand but he thinks he wants a title shot as well. And the one thing they all have in common? Their all nothing more than one hit wonders! BAHAHAHA!

While their all singing the same old song, the party is at the Georgia Dome tonight as the Road to Wrestle Kingdom begins! And speaking of Wrestle Kingdom,  there is no way that event goes down without the NWA World champion defending his title on it. But instead of stepping up to challenge me for this title, Luger, Savage, and Nikita are still just singing along. So the question is..... who's gonna step up and challenge me in the Tokyo Dome? Who is ready to make history with the Visionary?"

The fans blow the roof off the Georgia Dome as Edge makes his way to the ring! Edge and Rollins don't say a single word, they just stare each other down as the fans buzz in anticipation as it appears the NWA World title match for Wrestle Kingdom is set!

Brody goes back into the ring. He still wants to fight. Andre gets in and yells at the referee for couting them out. Brody STILL WANTS TO FUCKING GO. Neither of them accept the countout result. Andre manhandling officials as Brody bounces around, still full of piss and vinegar. Andre gets himself tied in the ropes and Brody punches him in the face.

Andre gets out and FUCKING LEVELS Brody with a chop to the chest. Andre grabs Brody by the hair, laughs with maniacal glee, and headbutts him down. Andre comes over, picks Brody back up, and looks to ram him into the corner, but Brody blocks and does it to the Giant instead.

Andre down, Brody back in control. Andre grabs an arm again and they’re both on the canvas. They stand back up, Andre pulling back on both of Brody’s arms and headbutts him in the back of the skull. He does it a second time. Brody would fall, but Andre’s holding him up. Andre locks both arms and Brody tries to maneuver his way out. Instead, Andre scoops Brody and slams him down with authority, but misses a kneedrop. Brody misses Andre after that. Andre with more headbutts to a downed Brody. Andre misses a big boot, THE LARIAT HITS! ANDRE TUMBLES TO THE APRON AND THEN OUT TO THE FLOOR!  Andre comes back in and the referee tries to get in his way, but Andre is just shoving the referee around, then he grabs him and throws him into the ropes, drilling him with a monster clothesline. Security rush into the ring to help the official as Andre goes after Btidy again. The bell sounds as another referee gets in. Security now turn their attention to getting Andre and Btody seperated. They cannot. That’s just not happening. Brody goes after Andre. Security step in again, and now both Andre and Brody are clubbing them and tossing them around, trying to get at one another. More security comes out and finally they get them separated as the fans buzz over what they just witnessed.

Tony Schiavone: "Words can't even begin to describe the fight we just seen. Neither man backing down and only wanting more! But the end result of all that madness is now both men are eliminated from the tournament. Which leaves the door open for someone straight into the Semi-Finals! Fans, we have one more opening round contest left, and it's sure to be a classic!"

Tony Schiavone: "And with that win, Sting advances in the tournament and that's a wrap on the opening round. An incredible night of action. And now the matches for the Quarter-finals are set. Next week at the Cow Palace your going to see Ricky Steamboat against Big Van Vader! Minoru Suzuki will collide with Bob Backlund.  And after what transpired between Andre and Brody tonight, Misawa will advance straight into the Semi-Finals! And in the last Quarter-final matchup, Sting will face the behemoth, Yokozuna! But we aren't finished here tonight! We still have our Main Event to go!"

so looking forward to the start of this tourney

great opener and benoit's arrogance almost cost him this match but je managed to pull it out

helluva hard hitting match and i really thought kobashi was gonna take it

a fukin classic between backlund and snuka what i liked too was that both guys did some heelish shit but not too over the top bob is on a fukin roll

damn...misawa and kawada sure know how to give a beating and take one too,, for the luv of god could u NOT have found a better pic to use instead of that one? lol

how tf did the rock bodyslam that big mofo>

a helluva win and seems to me that gary hart has lit a fire under vader and its paying off

steamboat needed this boost of confidence and really put on a great display of his skills over a top talent like chono! Hopefully the dragon carries this over in the SECW

GOD I HATE ROLLINS AND HIS PROMOS MAKE ME HATE HIM WORSE...SO ALL THAT SAYS IS YOU ARE DOING A ANTASTIC JOB WRITING HIM!! why tf am i yelling?

oh fuck...EDGE This is a dream match!!

the gunn club gave the BUULDOGS a big test here but the experience and teamwork of the champs was too much to overcome BULLDOGS are primed for the Hart Foundation but now they got the fukin MX to contend with!

norton is one powerful man but even he cant overcome the mass of humanity that is yoko

i dont know what was better, the action throughout that entire match or the action after both men were counted out

maybe heenan could have got andre under control a bit or maybe he would have encouraged the violence if he was there

sad that neither advances but this match was crazy

sting with imo the best match of the night he is my pick to win it all

the next round is gonna be great!

jay white with a big and successful title defense and the dude looks like he is going to hold onto that belt for a long time!

HELLUVA OPENING ROUND AND KICKASS NIGHT!

What a way to begin . Tiger Mask gave Benoit all he wanted .

Suzuki pure bad ass . Kobashi put up a hell of a fight .

Snuka vs Backlund was outstanding .

What a match . Glad to see Misawa win . Wow !

Damn you Gary Hart !!!

Tough one for Steamer !!!

Dear lord Rollins is annoying !

Shut him up Edge !!!!

Gunn Club took it to the Bulldogs , but the Bulldogs are just too damn much !!

Yokozuna is gonna be a force in this thing .

Brody and Andre was brutal . They need to meet again .

Sting vs Okada was a classic !

Rey showed up , but White showed why he is the NWA World SJ Champion.

Great show
