WCW Monday Nitro #45

       












  Jim Ross: "Hello wrestling fans and welcome to this week's edition of WCW Nitro! We are coming into your homes live from The Myriad in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma! And what a show we have for you! Your gonna see Adam Cole defend the WCW Heavyweight title against Samoa Joe...... Iceman and JYD face The Freebirds..... and in our Main Event, MJF will defend the IWA X Division title against the #7 contender, Jushin Liger! All that and so......."  


Ross is interrupted by the appearance of "The Natural" Dustin Rhodes!





  Dustin Rhodes: "Jim Ross, please pardon me but I have to get something off my chest. Last week, I had Barry Windham pinned after I hit him with the Bulldog! Unfortunately for me, time expired before the ref could count to three! Thirty more seconds was all I needed. Well..... that was last week, and this is now! And I'm out here to challenge Barry Windham to a rematch for that WCW TV Title! So Barry.....why don't you......"        


The challenge by Dustin brings out the champ.....Barry Windham!




Barry Windham: "Is this how you think it works Dustin? You think you can just come out here and recieve a title shot anytime that you want one? Well.... I have news for you..... you had your shot last week.
...and You failed! You couldn't put my shoulders to the mat for the three count! That was your chance! Now you go back to the bottom of the line. End of story!"     

Dustin Rhodes: "Damn Barry..... I knew you was a changed man that I knew since joining the Horsemen.  But what I didn't know was now your a chicken shit too!"        


The look on Windhams face is clear that he is insulted by Rhodes comment. Then out of nowhere, Windham slaps Dustin in the face!  Rhodes slaps Barry back and then the two fight all around ringside! Dustin slams Barry face first into the announce table but Windham fights back and throws Dustin backfirst into the ringpost. Barry goes to hit Dustin, but Dustin moves and Windham punches the steel post!! Security rushes to ringside.  Windham is screaming in pain, holding his hand, screaming out that "ITS BROKE! MY HAND IS BROKE!"

We come back from break and see The medical team attending to Windham in the dressing room and a doctor confirms that Windhams hand is indeed broken. Eric Bischoff comes in to the dressing room and is informed the news. Bischoff says that he hates to hear about the injury, but tells the doctor to get a cast on it because Windham has a title defense tonight......against Dustin Rhodes!!!! Windham can't believe his ears as Bischoff exits the room.  




  Match One: Ted DiBiase vs Andrade              

Andrade attacks DiBiase before the introductions can even be made and gets some shots in early, and gets control of the wrist. Dibiase gets a headlock takedown, but gets rolled onto his own shoulders for a cover attempt. Dibiase keeps the headlock and rolls back into a dominant position. Shoulder tackle by Dibiase, who goes back to the headlock. Andrade reverses into a wrist lock. Andrade clubs the arm and stretches. Andrade pulls the hair for a wrist lock, but the referee caught it and the hold is broken. Front headlock by Andrade. Dibiase struggles to reverse into an armlock, but Andrade retains the hold. They hit the floor and Andrade breaks to kick the head. Hard Irish whip but he runs into Dibiases boot. Dibiase hits an elbow to the head, but Andrade is still fighting back with desperate shots. Elbow smash to the jaw by Dibiase and a body slam. Cover by Dibiase gets 2. Dibiase hits a drop-kick, but misses a second attempt. Shoulder tackle by Andrade but Dibiase sunset flips and gets the three count! Andrade is pissed as Dibiase rolls out of the ring celebrating.

  Match Two: Keith Lee vs Damian Priest              

They lock up, and Lee hits the ropes and takes Priest down with a wild shoulder tackle. Priest fights back and springboards off the ropes, but Lee punches him. Priest quickly elbows him back, but Lee clotheslines him over the top rope. Lee goes to the outside and sends Priest over the barricade. Lee then presses Priest above his head and throws him over ringside to the apron!

Lee puts him in the ring, Priest quickly goes outside. Priest elbows him and goes to bounce him off the steps, but Lee puts the brakes on it. Lee goes for a spear, but he goes through the barricade when Priest moves. Priest rolls Lee inside and Lee fights up from a chin lock. Priest avalanches him in the corner and goes for a suplex, but Lee fights it. Lee deadlifts him, but Priest fights out of that and hits a hangman’s neckbreaker for a near fall. Priest punches away at Lee on the mat and tries to drag him, but Lee won’t move. Priest lifts him up and tries for a suplex, but he can’t lift Lee. Lee fights out, but Priest claps the ears. Lee comes back with a Pounce into the corner. Lee punches away at Priest before hitting a vicious spinebuster. Priest rolls out of the ring to recover, so Lee hits him with a corkscrew plancha! Lee puts Priest back in the ring and covers for a near fall.

Lee avalanches Priest in the corner before viciously clotheslining him down for a near fall. Lee goes for a Spirit Bomb, but Priest fights out and punches him. Priest grabs the throat, but Lee grabs back at Priest. Priest gets out of a Chokeslam and big boots Lee back. Priest strikes away at Lee and hits a wild Broken Arrow! Lee rolls out of the ring to recover. Priest dives over the top rope and takes Lee down at ringside!

Priest gets Lee in the ring and goes to the top rope before hitting a diving cyclone kick for a near fall. Priest sizes Lee up, but Lee head-butts him down. Priest goes to the apron and kicks Lee back. Priest goes to the top rope, but Lee cuts him off. Lee hits a deadlift superplex for a near fall. Priest fights back at Lee and hits a chokeslam, 1.....2..... Lee kicks out. Priest is furious and argues with the ref which is a huge mistake as Lee hits the Grizzly Magnum before hitting two Spirit Bombs for the win! As the replay is shown, Gene Okerlund joins Lee at ringside.....





  Gorilla Monsoon: "OHHHHH MY!!! Yet another impressive victory for this man.....Keith Lee! And now Sir, you move on to this weekend where you will have an opportunity to win the Global Force Gen-Next title!"             




  Keith Lee: "And it's an opportunity that I'm not taking lightly! The other seven men in that tournament are as good as they come. But its no fluke that you look at the IWA rankings and see the name of Keith Lee climbing the ranks. And this weekend..... they all.....Will Bask In My Glory!"

  Match Three: Iceman King Parsons & Junkyard Dog vs The Freebirds           

The action starts as soon as Iceman and JYD get in the ring. Hayes gave JYD a cross corner whip but ate a forearm during his follow-through. When tags were exchanged on both sides, Parsons reversed an Irish whip yet received a hip toss. He then leap-frogged Garvin and followed with a dropkick.

As JYD tagged in, Hayes tried to ram him head-first into Garvin’s knee. JYD no-sold it and head-butted both Freebirds. After Hayes tagged in, JYD gave him a cross corner whip but came up empty on his follow-through. Parsons tagged in and delivered a butt butt, 1..... 2.....NO! Garvin saved Hayes before the ref can count three.

With all four wrestlers in the ring, Hayes made Parsons hit the ringpost. Parsons was BUSTED OPEN! When JYD tagged in, he backdropped Hayes. He then slammed Garvin while Parsons was removed from the ring for medical attention.

As Hayes tagged in, he landed an elbow drop for two. Garvin tagged in, mounted the second turnbuckle, and hit an axe handle. The Birds double team JYD fir several minutes until Parsons returned with his head bandaged! Parsons grabbed a chair and enters the ring and nails Hayes with it! The ref calls for the bell, disqualifying Iceman and JYD! 




  Gene Okerlund: "Wrestling fans......help me in welcoming my guests at this time! You know them as Hawk..... and Animal..... THE ROAD WARRIORS!!!"                  





Gene Okerlund: "Gentlemen the road to the Survivor Series has begun and we just seen a team you will be across the ring from on that night, The Freebirds, in action. As team Freebirds will face team Black Wallstreet. Another team that will be across the ring from you will be two mean you know very well..... Big Van Vader and Bam Bam Bigelow!"    


   Animal: "Yea, we know those two fat pieces of lard real well! Just a few weeks ago, they tried taking us out of pro wrestling for good! Well that doesn't sit well with us! And at Survivor Series, we are finally gonna get our hands on them and we are warning ya now.....it's not gonna be pretty!"              

  Gene Okerlund: "Another team that's part of team Freebird..... are The Pain Makers! And for those who haven't heard, you guys went into Big Time Wrestling and defeated them for the Great Lakes tag titles!"         

   Hawk: "WEEEEELLLLLL..... they say that imitation is the most sincerest form of flattery! We say what a load of crap! We seen teams like you come and go all our lives! And at the end of the day.... their all gone and we are still standing! So those two NEO MAXI ZOOM DWEEBIES wanna commit career suicide against us..... so be it! We took your titles, and now we're coming for Vader and Bigelow! WHHHHAATTTTA RUUUUSSSHH!"

  Match Four: Toni Storm w/Paige vs Holidead                 

Holidead slithers around Storm at the bell, taking her into the corner as Jim Ross and Jesse Ventura talk about Storms success under the guidance of Paige, thats led to Storm being ranked #1 contender and being the captain of her team to face Team D. M. D at Survivor Series!

Things quickly broke down into a battle of forearms, with Storm edging ahead with palm strikes and a pump kick, before some misdirection allowed Toni to land a low dropkick.

Holidead’s taken outside for a lowpe from Storm, before she blocked a second one with a forearm. Storm’s thrown onto the apron next as Holidead looked to make a dent, throwing Toni into the turnbuckles before a backbreaker. The ring post’s put to use as Holidead stretches Storm’s back around it, following up with a Dragon screw on the mat.

A seated surfboard’s next as Storm’s back continued to get stretched. After getting free, somehow Toni avoids a big boot but got taken down again by Holidead for a modified single crab, ending when Toni managed to get to the ropes. Holidead begins to trash talk Toni, and that’s the cue for Toni to fight back with a head kick and a German suplex dumped Holidead.

A second German suplex follows for a one-count as they rolled too far back, but Toni keeps up with the Germans before a diving lariat led to a near-fall. The STF’s next, but they’re too close to the ropes, before a Storm Zero piledriver got countered with a back body drop. Storm tries to counter a Gunnslinger, but she’s caught with a Samoan drop instead, before a headbutt took Holidead off her feet.

Toni’s back with a waistlock, but the latest German suplex is elbowed away from as a spinebuster landed for a near-fall. Another Samoan drop followed as Holidead went for a pumphandle slam, but it’s still not enough as Holidead went up top… only to miss with a flying legdrop as Storm quickly put her away with a Storm Zero piledriver!

  Match Five: Dustin Rhodes vs Barry Windham for the WCW TV Title          

Barry comes out with a cast on his arm, still clutching it in pain. He pleads with the ref that this match shouldn't take place. But the ref calls for the bell. Barry grabs a headlock and talks some trash "Your father ain't nuthin. Your mama ain't nuthin"and Dustin counters out and goes to work immediately on the broken hand of Windham. Windham powders selling his arm and gets back in and tries to goad him into a test of strength. Jesse puts over Windham hard here saying even though Windham is the one who is hurt, he is dictating the pace. Dustin ain't buying it and kicks him in the arm. The fans are chanting it "Break It" when Dustin has him in the armbar!

Windham gets a right hand to get out of it. He slams Dustin's head into the mat breaking only to sell his arm and talk trash. Windham goes for a neckbreaker but Dustin broke out due to Windhams weaken arm and hit his own. Barry starts to work the back in earnest and this where Windham slows down the pace of the match with a camel clutch and bearhug only for Dustin' to counter into a electric chair drop, but he ends up sailing over the top rope to the floor when Windham ducks. Windham does the most entertaining ab stretch ever as he gives Dustin a wicked wedgie when the ref is not working. Windham goes back to the camel clutch and when he jumps to land on Dustin's back instead Barrys jewels crash against Dustin's knee.

Dustin hits some bionic elbows and string together an inverted atomic drop and bulldog, 1....2..... but Windhams foot finds the bottom rope. Barry grabs a desperation sleeper so Dustin backs him into the corner. Then Windham jumps over Dustin so that Dustin can grab a sleeper! Rude pushes off the turnbuckles and both men crash into the ref, knocking him out of the ring! Windham and Rhodes are down as well. After a few seconds, Dustin gets to his feet fired up!! He can taste the WCW TV Title!! Barry stumbles up.... DUSTIN HITS THE BULLDOG!!! THERES NO REF!! Dustin keeps Windham pinned when we see a man Storm the ring. Its.......








BRUISER BRODY!!!


Brody wraps his chain around his arm and then drops an elbow drop to the back of Dustin's head! Brody scoops Rhodes up and bodyslams him to the mat. Brody climbs the turnbuckles and hits a flying kneedrop to Dustin! Rhodes is busted open from the chain blow to the head. Brody stomps around the ring "HUSS! HUSS! HUSS!

We come back from break and see Toni Storm cooling down from her victory earlier.




Then we see.......





    Ronda Rousey: "Toni Storm!! What's up champ? I've been watching you! Your killing it lately girl! Listen.... I'm gonna get right to the point. I heard your the #1 contender for Survivor Series and your team will face Britt Bakers team. Do me a favor..... save a spot for me on your team!"   


Rousey gives Storm a fist bump and walks away as Storm watches on.



  Match Six: Samoa Joe vs Adam Cole fir the WCW Heavyweight title    

The bell rings and Cole rushes Joe right away. Cole lands some shoulder thrusts to Joe’s gut and somehow snap suplexes the much heavier Joe. Cole lands some hard kicks and Irish whips Joe, but Joe counters into a step kick. Joe charges, Cole leapfrogs and lands a dropkick that downs Joe. Cole forearms Joe but Joe fights out and charges but runs into the ropes as Cole dodges him. After a standoff they have a stiff strike exchange and Joe downs Cole then kicks him out of the ring.

Joe chops Cole into the barricade and tosses him back into the ring. He tries to suplex Cole over the ropes but Cole counters by dropping Joe’s throat across the top rope. Cole springboards but lands on the apron, and Joe kicks Cole so hard he faceplants on the apron. Joe grabs Cole ’s legs and swings him head-first into the steel guardrail.

Joe whips Cole into another barricade and then lands a running kick to the face. In the ring, Joe snapmares Cole and lands a chop/kick/knee drop combo as the crowd chants his name. Joe lands more hard chops and Cole tries in vain to kick his way to freedom, but Joe immediately shuts him down with one hard kick to the torso. Joe whips Cole but Cole counters and goes for a dropkick but Joe counters into a flapjack. A big running senton gets Joe a two-count. Reverse chinlock. Cole slowly fights out. But Joe shuts him down with a knee lift in the corner. Joe does the facewash with his boot. Cole catches his foot and tries to fight back, but Joe shuts him down again with a hard slap to the mouth. Another running kick to Cole ’s face.

Joe kicks at a helpless Cooe mockingly. Cole manages to counter an Irish whip but Joe counters him and Cole lands on the apron. Joe cuts Cole off with a kick as Cole tries to re-enter the ring, but Cole lands a sudden enzuigiri. Springboard hurricanrana. No, Joe counters into a folding powerbomb! 1.....2.....NO!!! Cole escapes an STF but Joe applies a Boston Crab. Cole reaches the ropes but Joe quickly drags him away and reapplies the hold, but much deeper this time as Jim Ross on commentary states that whatever Cole does, Joe has an answer for! Cole escapes by kicking Joe in the eye. Joe whips Cole into a corner but Cole ducks and sends Joe out of the ring. Cole flips over the ropes, out of the ring, and onto Joe.


Cole  is in control as he tosses Joe back into the ring. He springboards again and lands the knee to the back of Joe’s head. 1.....2.....Joe kicks out. Cole charges, Joe ducks and goes for a dragon suplex. Cole escapes, Joe traps the arms and goes for an X-plex. Cole lands on his feet and lands a DDT.  1......2...... Joe kicks out again. Cole charges once more but walks into a snap powerslam. Now it’s Coles turn to kick out, so Joe answers by kicking the crap out of him. He tries to dodge and tank some of those kicks but Joe just hits too hard. Then Cole ducks a forearm and lands a spinkick.

Cole is bleeding from the mouth and looks to be out of it to the point that he doesn’t know what to do. Then, out of desperation, he goes for the Panama Sunrise....  Joe resists, so Cole kicks him and lands a powerbomb instead. Cole pins but Joe kicks out once again. Cole charges again but gets clotheslined. Joe pins but Cole kicks out at one. High-angle Tiger Driver. Cole kicks out and fires up. Joe charges, Styles ducks him, but Joe turns around and goes for the Coquina Clutch. Styles resists and lands a Pélé kick. Cole puts Joe on the top turnbuckle. He’s going for the Muscle Buster.... Joe’s finishing move. Joe fights out. Cole climbs back up. Joe throws him down. Cole pulls Joe down with a powerbomb.Cole hits "THE BOOM!"! 1...... 2.......Joe kicks out at 2.9. Cole climbs to the top rope but Joe cuts him off by shoving the referee from behind into the ropes. Cole manages to land behind Joe and goes for a roll-up, but Joe counters into the Coquina Clutch. COLE TAPS OUT!!! BUT..... THERES NO REF!!!  The Young Bucks rush into the ring.....SUPERKICK PARTY TO JOE!! They pit Cole on Joe and grab the ref, pulling him  over to count! 1......2.......3!!!!


The Bucks give Cole a celebration kiss!




And then, for the 3 straight week on a row, out comes Bobby "The Brain" Heenan!




Adam Cole: "For the love of God, Heenan...can't you take a hint? Your embarrassing yourself man! For the last time.... we aren't interested in you being our manager!"          

  Bobby Heenan: "Manage you? I don't waste my time on ham and Eggers like you guys! I'm not here to manage you... I'm here to challenge you!"        

Adam Cole: "Challenge me?? I know your not talking about you Heenan! Who do you possibly think you have that can even come close to being in my league?"           

Bobby Heenan: "I have the perfect opponent! Maybe you have heard of him?"          







Cole can't believe his eyes!!! The live crowd pops huge as Mr. Perfect makes his way into the ring. Perfect stands midrange, smirking at Cole!


Bobby Heenan: "This man is exactly what he says he is.... and that's absolutely.... PERFECT! See ya soon champ!!"

   Britt Baker: "One thing that stay consistent around here is the new flavor of the month. It started with Asuka... then Trish Stratus....then Thunder Rosa.... who I will get back to in a moment.  Then along came Lita.... and now the new flavors of the month, Ronda Rousey and Toni Storm. Ronda, this isn't the UFC girl. This is my kingdom and in my kingdom...... I'm The Baddest Bitch On the Block. Don't try your luck with me. And then there's Toni Storm. Cute Cinderella story. Being with Paige has done you well. But as you and your team will find out at Survivor Series.... I am the face of the entire women's division!

Which takes me back to Thunder Rosa. A couple of nights ago, I was yet again successfully defending my lWA Womens World title against Gail Kim, and here comes Thunder putting her nose in my business yet again! She's like that bad rash that just won't go away. Last warning Thunder.... stick your nose in my business again... you won't make it to Survivor Series. Courtesy of Dr.... Britt Baker! Main Event: Jushin Liger vs MJF W/Wardlow for the IWA X Division title              


Liger makes his way to the ring to a nice ovation and then the champion comes out....but he's in Street clothes???





  MJF: "Cut my music....cut my music! As you can see, I'm not dressed for a match tonight. I had the obligation to be in Detroit this past weekend and defended my X Division title against Christian! Now as you can imagine, it's hard damn work carrying Christian to a good match. But I did, and now my back is out by doing so! So unfortunately I can't compete tonight. However, I pay my man Wardlow here very good money, and he will be taking my spot tonight! Liger-san.... you no have title match. No chop stick for you tonight. You face Wardlow.... sucker!"   
  



Lock up to start and Wardlow easily shoves Liger down. Lock up and Liger shoved away again. Lock up, Liger with a headlock…off the ropes and stopped by Wardlow as he knocks him down as Liger came off the ropes. Drop toehold by Liger and a basement dropkick by Liger. Off the ropes and an elbow by Wardlow. Liger side steps and Wardlow to the floor. Liger teases a dive, then kicks Wardlow back down. Cross body off the top by Liger to Wardlow on the floor. Back in the ring now and Liger up top…Wardlow catches him and slams him down with a fall away. Off the ropes and Warner with the running knee to the corner. Liger down and picks him up, snap mare and a chop then the kick by Wardlow. Rear chinlock by Wardlow. Liger to his feet…elbows out. Off the ropes…quick powerslam by Wardlow gets 2. Another rear chinlock by Wardlow now and Liger has to battle out. He does and gets to his feet, knees by Wardlow and misses the corner knee. Liger with a suplex try, blocked and FISHERMAN to Wardlow get 2! Liger up top..... he leaps and Wardlow catches him..... transition into an F-10 by Wardlow! Powerbomb Symphony!! Powerpomb Symphony the 2 chorus! Powerbomb Sympony the 3rd..... and final stage! Wardlow puts his foot on Ligers chest and the ref counts three!






  Jim Ross: "MY GAWD .... WHAT A SHOWING BY WARDLOW! I'm not so sure I believe that MJF was injured tonight! But either way, he has one hell of a machine on his payroll in Wardlow! Just Destruction! Fans, we are outta time.... we will see you next week!"
