RING ANNOUNCER: Mike RomeWe begin tonight's show with a HUGE pyro display as the 10,000 seat Wrestle Kingdom arena is rocking!
IN THE BACK - Bobby Roode is talking to a stage hand about making sure everything is ready for his debut tonight .... the stage hand says everything is in place and it's going to be 'perfect' .... Roode stops him right there and says that he doesn't want things to be 'perfect', he wants them to be 'GLORIOUS'! The first thing people around the world see when they turn on Wrestle Kingdom is going to be Bobby Roode ....
Tonights show is being brought to you with limited commercial interruption .... It is also streaming live on the ESPN and WatchESPN app ....
The show starts with the return of Bobby Roode after weeks and weeks of campaigning for a match to Dana White .... Roode's entrance is complete with a church choir on the stage and he comes out to his 'Glorious' theme from NXT .... Roode is decked out in a more ornate robe than usual, and his opponent is waiting for him in the ring and it's .... JAMES ELLSWORTH????
Bobby Roode ~ vs ~ James Ellsworth
Of course this is just a squash match by Roode .... He punishes Ellsworth and nearly takes his head off with a northern lariat .... he pins Ellsworth but pulls him up before the 3 and toys with him a little more .... he hits the Double R spinebuster, then finishes him off with an impaler DDT ....
AT THE ANNOUNCE DESK - MAURO RENALLO & THE COACH
First they talk about Bobby Roode and Coach says his entrance was longer than the match .... all that waiting and all that hype and Roode picked some dude with no chin as his opponent????
Talk shifts to the recent rebranding of SSW as Wrestle Kingdom and Mauro thinks the name fits perfectly alongside Disneys other global brands ....
Tonight Sami Zayn tries to stop the rise of the Roman Empire as he defends the Wrestle Kingdom title against Roman Reigns .... and where Reigns is, you know the Usos aren't far away .... we will also see:
- UWF junior champion Finn Balor returns home to Wrestle Kingdom and will defend his title right here tonight ....
- we will also hear from the brand-new 'interim' women's champion Charlotte, who defeated Paige for the title last week in a match that was not without controversy ....
- Nia Jax is here
- American Alpha will also be in action coming up next ....
American Alpha (Chad Gable & Jason Jordan) ~ vs ~ The Bromans (Robbie E & Jesse)
Basically another squash match but the Bromans get a little offense .... Gable & Jordan are just money together and they are super over with the crowd .... AA wins after hitting the Grand Amplitude on Robbie E for the 3 count ....
The Kingdom comes out to the ring led by Maria Kanellis .... Maria starts talking about how the Revival got one over on them last week .... meanwhile Mike Bennett paces behind her and he finally has had enough and snatches the mic out of her hand cut a promo .... Bennett is furious and he cuts a promo on Scott Dawson .... He crossed the line last week when he kissed his wife! He doesn't care about the tag titles, he just wants to fight .... He calls out Dawson for a match next ....
The Revival come out and say they are the top guys and they do what they want .... They live down 40 miles of bad road and two cupcakes like the Kingdom can't even make it down their block .... he says Bennett don't wanna fight them and to think it through .... Bennett says it's either gonna be in the ring or in the back but they are fighting tonight .... The Revival says if they want to fight they will be waiting for them in the parking lot ....
IN THE PARKING LOT:
The cameras follow the Kingdom as they head out into the parking lot to meet the Revival .... HUGE brawl erupts between them .... it goes all over the parking lot and even on top of some parked cars .... WK personnel and security come out and try to break it up but the fight continues on for a long while .... both of these teams are trying to kill each other!
Nia Jax ~ vs ~ Brittney Fox & Barbi Hayden
Total squash match for Jax here as Fox & Hayden attack but Jax takes them down with a double clothesline .... Jax tosses them into opposite corners and hits a Avalanche splash on Hayden, then charges to the other side and hits one on Fox .... Jax slams Hayden, then hits a Samoan drop on Fox ON TOP of Hayden! Jax stacks both of them up and pins both of them for 3 ....
After the match Jax takes the mic and asks when she is going to get some real competition .... all these little girls prance around in their skimpy outfits and think they are tough, but when they get in the ring with a real woman you see what happens ....
IN THE BACK - Sami Zayn promo .... yeah Reigns is big and bad, but Zayn is used to being the underdog .... ever since he's been the champion he's been the underdog from the underground and tonight is no different .... and even if he goes down tonight you can bet he will go down Fighting .... he asks if Reigns can be the man that can do what so many others haven't been able to, and that's put him down .... I guess we will see ....
Back in the arena, Charlotte's music hits and the new 'interim' women's champion Charlotte makes her way to the ring .... Charlotte proceeds to cut a promo about how she is the 'Queen' of women's wrestling and she is the best at everything she does .... she is a 2 times women's champion but she wants more .... she wants what is her birthrite, and she's talking about the WORLD TITLE .... she says everyone talks about how dominant Kong is but that's because Kong has never faced her .... people are afraid of her, but Charlotte isn't .... she isn't scared because she is genetically superior to Kong and every woman who steps in this ring .... Charlotte says she IS women's wrestling, and she tells Dana White that it's time for her to get a world title shot because every Queen needs her crown!
Paige comes out and tells Charlotte to get over herself .... Charlotte says she's so good, but Paige beat her last week Highlights show how Paige pinned Charlotte but Charlotte got her foot on the ropes AFTER the 3 count but the ref ordered the match to continue .... .... Charlotte laughs it off and says there is no instant replay in wrestling .... The women's title is the only proof she needs, so Paige can have her moral victory .... Paige says she met with Dana White before the show and Charlotte has 2 weeks to enjoy her reign because when Paige gets her rematch she will be the new champion .... The segment ends with a staredown and Paige making the belt motion around her waist ....
IN THE BACK - Roman Reigns promo .... Reigns says there is a reason you don't see your heroes around here anymore .... guys like Seth Rollins and AJ Styles .... or Dean Ambrose .... he's sucking his food through a straw because Reigns broke his jaw .... Sami Zayn is the last hero left and Reigns is going to finish him off tonight and assume his rightful place .... this isn't Wrestle Kingdom, this is the Roman Empire and they are taking over ....
(UWF Junior Heavyweight Champion) Finn Balor ~ vs ~ Akira Tozawa ----- UWF Junior title match
Balor gets a heroes welcome because this is the first time he's been back in the WK arena in a while .... the match is entertaining and Tozawa has moments where he shines .... Tozawa has Balor on the ropes after a snap German suplex, but Balor battles back with the sling blade .... he hits the shotgun dropkick and then finishes him off with the coup de grace off the top rope for the win ....
As Balor celebrates after the win, we get the surprise entrance of XWA Cruiserweight champion Chris Candido! Candido says he came in person to demand another title match .... he asked Dixie Carter to make it happen but she's incompetent and taking too long so he decided to come in person .... He calls Balor a cheater and says that he is under investigation for lacing that ridiculous body paint with PED's .... Candido is making America great again, and he is going to save the UWF from foreigners like Balor .... Balor takes the mic and says he accepts, THEN CHARGES AND NAILS CANDIDO WITH THE SHOTGUN DROPKICK!!!! Balor up top for the Coup De Grace but Candido quickly rolls outside .... Balor holds up the title and dares Candido to come back in the ring but he won't ....
IN THE BACK - Bobby Roode is asked about his return earlier tonight and Roode says it was 'Glorious' .... he calls Wrestle Kingdom 'his' Kingdom and says he will soon set on his throne as the WK champion .... and that, too, will be 'Glorious'
(Wrestle Kingdom Champion) Sami Zayn ~ vs ~ Roman Reigns w/ the Usos ----- Wrestle Kingdom title match
BIG fight feel to this one .... Reigns and the Usos have been on a year since Reigns turned on his Shield brothers .... They have taken out AJ Styles, Seth Rollins AND Dean Ambrose ....
Reigns controls the early going with power, but Zayn battles back and hits a flip dive to the outside that takes out Reigns .... Zayn goes for the diving tornado ddt through the ropes but Reigns cuts him off with a punch and then hits the driveby kick .... Reigns hits a 1 armed power bomb on Zayn for a 2 count .... Reigns traps Zayn in the corner and hammers him with rapid fire clotheslines .... he has Zayn at his mercy .... He toys with Zayn and goes for the spear but Zayn catches him in a flatliner and then locks on a coji clutch!!!! Reigns is trapped! He battles out of it, then puts Zayn on top for a superplex but Zayn fights him off .... BIG cross body by Zayn for 2!!!! Reigns comes back with a superman punch but Zayn is out of the way and Reigns takes out the ref instead! Zayn with a half Nelson suplex and then drills him with the Helluva kick!!!! There is no ref!!!! Out come the Usos, and Zayn tries to fight them off but Reigns is up and nails him with a spear! The Usos toss the ref back in the ring and he counts 1 ... 2 ... nooooo! Zayn kicks out! Reigns grabs a chair as the Usos distract the ref, but out of the crowd comes ...

AJ hits the ring and dropkicks the chair right back into Reigns face!!!! Roll up by Zayn! 1 ... 2 ... 3!!!!
AJ quickly bails out into the crowd as Zayn rolls out the other side of the ring .... AJ taunts Reigns and the Usos as he is surrounded by fans while Zayn heads up the ramp with the WK title .... | |
