Jim Ross: "Hello wrestling fans and welcome to the sold out Cable Dahmer Arena just outside Kansas City, as we bring to you the Quarterfinals of The Open! We have three Quarterfinal matchups tonight. With the Flying Tigers not in action as they recieve a bye this week. Your also going to see the IWA Womens World title on the line as the champion, Britt Baker defends against the #2 contender, Kris Statlander! And that's not all as you will......." Ross is interrupted by the appearance of Hardcore Country...... Mickie James and Rebel!
Mickie James: "Jim, pardon our interruption! But there was just no way that Rebel and I could let The Open tournament run through are home territory here in Missouri and not be part of it. As you know we have been picking up victories left and right since the Summer Sizzler tour. And we know Tall and Sexy are here tonight. So we are calling them out right now.....for a shot at those GFW Womens tag titles!" After a few seconds, out comes the champions, who quickly agree to the match and it happens right now!
Match One: Harcore Country vs Tall & Sexy for the GFW Womens tag titles The bell rings, and Raquel Gonzalez charges Mickie, but Mickie dropkicks her. Kamille and Rebel tag in. Rebel quickly takes Kamille down and applies a cloverleaf. Kamille screams in pain and tries to crawl to the bottom rope, but Rebel drags her to the center of the ring. Kamille screams some more. She’s been locked in the cloverleaf for a while. Kamille inches to the bottom rope and gets the rope break. Kamille quickly ducks a kick, but they both wipe each other out with a double big boot. After a few seconds, we see Gonzalez slam Kamille onto Rebel for a near fall. Kamille applies a grounded abdominal stretch and pulls the hair. Rebel gets out with a roll-up for a two count. Kamille takes her down, but Rebel gets out of a DDT. Rebel connects with a step-up enzuigiri.
Mickie tags in and knocks Gonzalez off the apron. Mickie hits a pair of clotheslines and slams Kamille. Mickie hits a senton splash before booting her down. Mickie hits a flatliner/double knee combo. Mickie avoids interference from Gonzalez and hits a flying double knee facebuster. Kamille and Gonzalez are outside recovering. Rebel hits them with a suicide dive. Mickie bounces Kamille off the apron and puts her in the ring. Mickie rolls Kamille up for a two count. Kamille boots her back and pulls her face-first into the turnbuckle. Kamille hits a running big boot in the corner. Gonzalez tags in and lifts Mickie up. Gonzalez and Kamille hit double-team toss into a kick for a near fall. Gonzalez flips out in frustration.
Gonzalez knees away at Mickie and puts her in a torture rack before transitioning into a big slam. Gonzalez covers, 1......2..... but Rebel breaks up the pin. Rebel quickly runs away before Gonzalez can attack. Kamille tags in and accidentally knocks into Gonzalez. Rebel tags in and hits a diving cross-body block on Gonzalez and Kamille. Rebel hits Gonzalez with a hurricanrana before kneeing Kamille. Rebel kicks away at Kamille before hitting a back suplex for a near fall. Mickie tags in as Rebel hits Kamille with a splash against the ropes. Mickie knocks Kamille back and splashes her for a near fall. Rebel tags in. Mickie knees Kamille. Rebel and Mickie hit a double-team powerbomb. Gonzalez breaks up the hold and chokes Rebel. Rebel gets out with a jawbreaker. Mickie goes for an Eclipse on Kamille, but Kamille powers her up. Mickie goes for a hurricanrana, but Rebel knocks into Gonzalez who flies into Kamille! Mickie rolls Kamille up, 1......2.......3!!! And NEWWWWW GFW WOMENS TAG CHAMPIONS....... HARDCORE COUNTRY!!!!
Jim Ross: "How about that to start the show off? The miscue by Gonzalez had a lot to do with the outcome in my opinion, but nonetheless, Hardcore Country are your new GFW Womens tag champs!" Match Two: Bob & Brad Armstrong vs The Young Bucks Bob started with Nick, they did some tumbling around with Nick hitting an arm drag and Bob blocked a kick attempt. Brad tagged in against Matt. Brad did some grappling with Matt on the floor, then Matt with a takedown leading to punches. Bob pulled Matt off, that didn’t work and Nick pulled Matt off. Nick tagged in, Brad with a slap and Nick with a kick to the gut. Matt launched Nick into a dropkick on Brad and then the Bucks kicked Bob off the apron. Nick with a neckbreaker, Matt with a splash and Matt kicked Bob into the barricade. Matt with a neckbreaker on Brad onto the knee of Nick. Brad worked over the lower back of Matt with a forearm and repeated knees to the back. Brad gave Bob a tag to bring him in and Bob hit a running backbreaker on Matt for a two count. Brad with a double sledge to Matt’s back and then a cheap shot knocked Nick off the apron to the floor. Brad sent Matt out of the ring, then he whipped Matt into the barricade and Bob told Brad to get Matt in the ring, so Bob sent Matt back in the ring. The Armstrongs worked over Matt with hard chops. Matt avoided a suplex, then tried a suplex of his own, but he couldn’t do at first and then Matt was able to connect with the Northern Lights Suplex. Nick got the tag with jumping kicks, then a running knee and Nick did the bulldog/clothesline on both opponents. Nick with a hurricanrana off the ropes on Bob, a rising knee on Brad and a kick to Bob and an over the top facebuster. Nick hit a moonsault off the apron on Bob on the floor. Nick with a Sharpshooter on Brad. Bob into the ring and hit a legdrop to the head to save his partner. Matt into the ring, Bob with a hurricanrana on him. Bob ran the ropes and Matt kicked him to save Nick from an attack. Nick got a rollup for two.
Nick grounded Bob with a front facelock, the fans chanted for both teams and Nick knocked Brad off the apron. Matt tagged in, Bob sent Nick out of the ring and Matt got in Brad’s face to get him angry. Bob broke free, but Nick pulled Brad off the apron to prevent a tag. Matt hit a piledriver on Bob for a two count. Bob sent Nick into Brads boot and Bob hit a spinning sitout spinebuster. Brad got the tag with punches for both Bucks, Brad with a dropkick to Matt and a clothesline on Nick on the apron. Brad with a fallaway slam on Matt, a dive over the top on Nick and a clothesline on Matt to send him out of the ring. The fans popped huge for that as Brad was on fire. Brad sent both Bucks out of the ring. Brad went up top and hit a crossbody on both Bucks. Brad ran the ropes leading to a huge clothesline on Nick, who did a flip bump to sell it. Brad tossed Nick into the turnbuckle because he wanted Matt, so Matt tagged in. The fans were strongly behind Brad as they argued and exchanged punches. When Matt ran the ropes, Brad met him with a boot to the face. Bob tagged in, running back elbow, forearm by Brad and Bob shoved Matt into Brad who hit a German Suplex. Bob with a sitout powerbomb for a two count. Brad was legal, Nick hit a kick, then knees and a running superkick on Bob. Nick stood on the top, Brad shoved him onto the ramp and Nick hit a Canadian Destroyer on Brad! 1......2......NO!! Matt held Brad’s face against the turnbuckle and Nick hit a superkick. Matt hit a neckbreaker off the top with a Powerbomb as part of the combo and that got a two count with Bob making the save. Brad blocked a superkick from Nick, then sent Nick’s foot into Matt’s face and Brad with a kick to Matt’s knee. Brad slapped on the crossface chickenwing submission, so Nick broke it up with a 450 Splash off the top that got a two count for Matt with fans chanting “this is awesome” for them.
Brad sent Matt into the ropes while Nick was on the top. Bob hit a rolling senton on Matt, Brad with a splash and Bob with a dropkick. There were no tags during this and the referee didn’t seem to care. Brad with a suplex off the top for two. Brad with a Powerbomb and Bob with a running knee for two with Matt breaking up the pin. Bob tagged in, he hit a dropkick and Matt went in, so Bob hit a running knee for Matt too. Bob with two Suplexes on Nick. Bob hit the sitout slam, but it was only good for a two count. The fans chanted “fight forever” for them. Bob with a knee to Nick’s back against the turnbuckle. Bob went to the middle ropes with Nick on his shoulders and Nick countered with a reverse rana!! Brad with a clothesline on Nick. Matt with three Northern Lights suplexes on Brad on the ramp including the third one where Matt hit a release suplex. Matt held up Brad on the ramp in a Tombstone position and Nick hit the springboard attack for the Indytaker double team Tombstone on Brad. Both Bucks were in the ring as Nick hit a superkick on Bob then Matt hit a superkick and both Bucks hit double superkicks. The Bucks hit a double knee to Bob who erupted and punched the mat to show he had fight. The Bucks hit double superkicks for a two count. Matt stomped on the right shoulder of Bob and Nick talked to Matt to try to get him to focus. Matt picked up Bob, but Brad grabbed Nick and gave Nick a Powerbomb through the timekeeper’s table at ringside. Bob with a suppex on Matt, then Brad hit a Russian Legsweep combination and Nick kicked out at two. Brad can't believe it!! Bob with a powerslam on Matt. Bob wanted the piledriver but Matt broke free and Matt hit a superkick. Brad tagged in against Matt hitting a Russian Legsweepon Matt and Nick broke up the pin. Bob dropkicks Nick out of the ring snd Brad hits yet another Russian legsweep and covers Matt, 1......2.......3!! The Armstrongs advance to the Semi-Finals!
Jim Ross: "MY gawd.... what a damn match! It seems we say this every week, but the Cinderella story for the Armstrongs continues!" Match Three: Chris Adams & Terry Taylor vs Ivan & Nikita Koloff Adams starts the match off against “The Russian Bear” Ivan Koloff. Collar and elbow tie-up that sees Ivan shove Adams into the ropes. Adams locks back up, only for Ivan to shove him again. The two lock up a third time, but Adams catches Ivan in a side headlock. Ivan whips him into the ropes and catches him with a shoulderblock, knocking him down to the ground. Ivan picks up Adams and pushes him into the neutral corner, punching him before whipping him into the ropes. However, Adams reverses, catching Ivan with a hip toss. Relying on his quickness, Adams catches Ivan with a flying head scissors just as the Russian gets to his feet. A dropkick knocks Ivan down and Adams puts Ivan in a headlock, dragging him over to his corner. Tag to Terry Taylor as Adams grabs Ivan’s arm and Taylor comes off the second rope, striking Koloff’s arm. Another quick tag as Adams repeats the maneuver as Jim Ross says it's hard to predict which Adams and Taylor team you will get these days.....the rulebreaking version or the scientific grappling version. Another tag as Adams and Taylor pick Ivan up for a double suplex. Taylor covers Ivan, getting just a two count. Reverse chinlock on Ivan as Taylor keeps Ivan on the ground.
Ivan struggles to get to his feet before the chinlock can sap any more of his strength. Ivan gets to his feet and elbows Taylor in the gut. The first elbow doesn’t free him but the second does and Ivan escapes. Nikita enters the ring as the ref takes him back to his corner. As this happens, Ivan whips Taylor into the ropes and he falls out of the ring, thanks to Nikita pulling down the top rope.
Tag to Nikita who begins showing off his immense power, starting with forearm smashes to Taylors back that pummel him down to the mat. Nikita bodyslams Taylor then bounces off the ropes, dropping an elbow. Cover by Nikita and Taylor kicks out. Koloff stomps on Taylors back then lifts him up for an over-the-knee backbreaker. Lateral press by Nikita but Taylor kicks out at two. Nikita lifts Taylor up and drops his neck across the top rope. Tag to Ivan who drops a forearm on Taylors back while Nikita has Taylor trapped in an armbar.
Adams is clapping his hands and trying to rally the fans. Ivan whips Taylor into the ropes and applies a bearhug. Taylor is in trouble as Ivan has the move nearly in the center of the ring. Taylor starts to fade fast as the ref checks on him. The ref raises Taylor’s arm and it falls. Ref raises arm a second time and it falls again. One more time and the match is over. Taylor ’s arm starts to sag, but he holds it high, and the fans’ shouts are deafening. Taylor slugs Ivan in the head. Ivan squeezes but Taylor fires off another punch. The ref warns about the punches as Ivan seems to be losing his grip. Taylor rakes Ivan’s eyes, with Koloff finally releasing him. Taylor falls to the mat apron, but Ivan isn’t done. He picks Taylor up and whips him into the ropes again. Ivan goes for a back-body drop but Taylor counters with a Sunset Flip. 1....2.....NO! Nikita has come in to break up the pin. Taylor is moving slow and Ivan charges him, only to get caught with a shot to the breadbasket. Ref warns Nikita to get back to his corner. As he does, Ivan whips Taylor into the Russians’ corner, accidentally sending Taylor into the referee!
Ivan and Nikita are taking advantage of this opportunity and start kicking and stomping at Taylor. Things are looking bleak as Ivan grabs Taylor’s arms while Nikita climbs to the top rope with the chain. However, Gino Hernandez sees what’s going on and runs to the ring. Gino grabs a chair and climbs the ringapron. Gino nails Nikita, knocking him off the turnbuckle and outside the ring where he takes a nasty bump. Taylor gets up and the Adams hits a superkick on Uncle Ivan. Gino revives a groggy ref who makes the 1-2-3 as Taylor covers Ivan. Adams and Taylor advance to the Semi-Finals!
Jim Ross: "Stop me if you heard this before..... but this situation between Gino Hernandez and Chris Adams and Terry Taylor is as bizarre as it gets. And to be honest with you, as long as Gino is around, Adams and Taylor may win this entire tournament!" Match Four: Ricochet vs Will Ospreay for the AEW All Atlantic title They lock up and Ospreay does some flipping to escape an armlock and transition into a heel hold. Ricochet escapes so Ospreay tries for a bow-and-arrow hold but Ricochet escapes that too. Ospreay lands a shoulder tackle but Ricochet kips up instantly. Ospreay ducks down and Ricochet somersaults over him. That’s followed by multiple dodges, dips, flips and rolls. Ospreay escapes a headscissor with a handspring and goes for his own headscissor. But Ricochet does the same thing. Both men fly into the ropes and flip into the middle of the ring, copying each other move-for-move. The crowd applauds loudly as the two men go nose-to-nose.
Ricochet lands a big punch and some corner forearms and chops. Ospreay counters an Irish whip and charges into a corner but Ricochet dodges and lands a 619. Ricochet springboards for a splash…but Ospreay kicks his gut in midair. Ospreay pins but Ricochet kicks out before one, so Ospreay punts his back. He applies an abdominal stretch but Ricochet reaches the ropes while carrying Ospreay on his back. Ospreay lands a corner forearm and charges for another but Ricochet blocks and does a forward roll into a DDT. Ospreay escapes to ringside. Ricochet charges and jumps. He does a corkscrew dive to the floor…and takes out Ospreay.
In the ring, Ricochet jumps onto the top rope, balances himself using his shins, and lands a rolling senton onto Ospreay. Ospreay cusses loudly as Ospreay Kawada kicks his chest in and applies an Atlantida modified torture rack and then switches into a twisted Stretch Muffler-type hold.
Ospreay tries fighting back with forearms and charges but Ricochet shuts him down with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Ricochet mocks him some more until Ospreay starts fighting back. Ospreay lands more forearms and winds up for a big one but Ricochet hits first. Ricochet tosses Ospreay into the ropes but Ospreay fires back with a handspring enzuigiri out of nowhere. Ricochet charges into a corner and the two block each other until Ospreay lands another enzuigiri. He follows with a springboard forearm and Ricochet falls to the floor. Ospreay follows with a corkscrew Sasuke special, flipping over the top rope and spinning down to the floor. He tosses Ricochet into the ring and lands a springboard sunset flip powerbomb for two. Ospreay teases another flippy move but Ricochet pulls him back. Ricochet goes to the ropes and flips but goes over Ospreay’s shoulders, ducks a clothesline, and lands a massive spinkick. Ricochet follows with a snap Regal-plex and pins for two.
Ricochet lifts Ospreay onto his shoulders but Ospreay escapes and the two wrestlers trade strikes again. Ricochet pump kicks Ospreay into a corner and charges but Ospreay blocks and goes for his through-the-legs superkick but Ospreay kicks him first. Both men flip over each other from the second rope, dodge some sweeps, and kick each other simultaneously. The audience cheers loudly as both guys collapse.
The crowd chants ‘THIS IS AWESOME!" as both wrestlers get up on the apron. They trade strikes once again until Ospreay charges. But he runs into a Death Valley Bomb right onto the apron. Ricochet tries to throw him back into the ring. Ospreay slides over the apron onto Ricochet’s shoulders and lands a poisoned Frankensteiner. Ricochet gets spiked and both wrestlers go down again. The referee begins his count. Both men barely make it in at 9.5 Both men make it to their feet and trade stiff strong-style strikes. Back-and-forth they go with forearms and uppercuts until Ospreay lands a head-butt. Ospreay charges but turns into a forearm. Ricochet goes for a fireman’s carry kick but Ospreay ducks and lands another enzuigiri. Ospreay tries a Rainmaker. Ricochet dodges and lands a northern lights suplex. He floats over into a vertical one but Ospreay counters with a stunner. He charges again. Ricochet lands a pump kick and goes back to the ropes. Ospreay counters with a standing Spanish Fly. 1.....2...... Ricochet kicks out.
Ospreay gets up first and signals the end. He goes to the ropes for his springboard Os-Cutter but Ricochet catches him and lands a Blue Thunder Bomb and a bicycle knee. Ricochet follows with a northern lights suplex into a Brainbuster. Standing shooting star splash. 1......2..... Ospreay kicks out. 630 splash from the top rope…misses. Ricochet counters a charge with another suplex attempt. Ospreay counters with a cradle that gets two. Ospreay starts kicking Ricochet’s head. Ricochet slaps back, so Ospreay kicks his head in. he goes to the ropes. Os – Cutter...... no, Ricochet goes for the fireman’s carry kick. Ospreay blocks and lands a corkscrew kick of his own. Springboard Os-Cutter connects. 1......2......3!! And STILLLLL AEW ALL ATLANTIC CHAMPION...... WILL OSPREAY!
Jim Ross: "Those two studs just gave every ounce their bodies had! Ospreay has went on record to say he will defend thar AEW ALL ATLANTIC title against anyone..... anywhere! Well my vote is for a rematch between these two!" Match Five: Kris Statlander vs Britt Baker for the IWA Womens World title There was some counter wrestling early on with Baker getting to the rope to avoid a submission. Statlander blocked a “DMD” taunt and Baker whips Statlander to the turnbuckle, Baker met her with forearms and Baker hit a twisting neckbreaker off the ropes. Baker trapped Statlander’s head between her feet and drove Statlander’s head into the apron. Back in the ring, Baker hit a suplex followed by a chinlock. Statlander was back up with strikes, Baker was against the turnbuckle and Statlander hit a running elbow followed by a running knee. Baker came back with a Slingblade takedown. Statlander hit Falcon Arrow sitout slam for two. Baker got a backslide pin for two and then Baker hit a DDT for two. Baker applied the glove to the right hand. Statlander with a kick to the head with a hard leg slap and Baker countered with a rollup for two. Baker came back with a flatliner into the turnbuckle pad. They went to the middle rope, Statlander wanted a superplex and then Statlander overpowered her. Statlander took way too long up top and missed a 450 splash with Baker moving out of the way. Statlander powered out of a submission attempt, and Statlander slammed her down. Statlander with a scissors kick for a two count. Baker went to the floor, Statlander went for a pendulum moonsault, Baker got out of the way and Baker hit a Curb Stomp off the steps. Statlander got back in, no selling what happened on the floor and went for a submission, but then Baker kicked her in the head. Baker with kicks and she shoved referee out of the way. Baker hit the Pittsburgh Sunrise for the two count. Baker hit the Curb Stomp for a two count. Baker applied the Lock Jaw submission with the glove in the mouth and Statlander was out, so the referee called it. Submission win for Baker!
Jim Ross: "Heading into this match, I thought the end was near for Britt Baker! I was quite certain we would see a new Womens World champion crowned! That's not the case tonight fans! Britt Baker has made me eat my words. She's the world champion for good reason!" Main Event: Steve Williams and Terry Gordy vs The Sheepherders The Sheepherders run into the ring ready to fight, but Gordy and Williams are ready and attack the two, as an all-out brawl ensues. Williams goes after Butch Miller while Gordy goes after Luke Williams. All four men are giving as good as they get and the action spills out of the ring as Williams and Butch start brawling at ringside. The ref motions for the bell to start as Gordy and Luke continue brawling. Luke then whips Gordy into the ropes and catches him with a shoulder block, knocking him down to the mat. Luke drops an elbow on Gordy and covers him, not even getting a two count. JR says Luke can’t have thought he could pin Gordy this early on. Outside the ring, Williams and Butch continue brawling and neither man has gained the advantage despite throwing some incredible blows at each other. The referee is focusing on the in-ring action, but JR wonders how much more brawling outside the official will allow.
Gordy gives Luke a knee to the gut when he gets up then delivers a big forearm uppercut. Luke staggers back and whips Gordy into the ropes. Luke bounces off the ropes and goes for a lariat, but Gordy ducks under and comes off the ropes again, hitting a cross-body block. Cover for about a two. Gordy boots Luke in the head then delivers a snapmare. Gordy goes for a side headlock, but Luke powers out with a side suplex. Luke lifts Gordy up and hits a backbreaker. Doc and Butch have finally got back to their corner and Luke whips Gordy towards Butch. Gordy crashes in hard. Butch nails Gordy with a forearm smash to the back as Luke comes in and lifts Gordy over his shoulder. Tag to Butch who comes off the top rope with a flying axe-handle to Gordys back. Cover on but he kicks out before three. Butch tags in Luke and the two men whip Gordy into the ropes, coming off with two big boots. Luke bounces off the ropes and drops an elbow on Gordy, covering him as Doc runs in and makes the save.
Things are still looking bad for Gordy though as Luke drops double knees on his opponent. Then he whips Gordy into the ropes and dropkicks him. Gordy’s left arm and left leg are stuck in the top two ropes. Luke goes over and begins punching away at the defenseless Gordy. Referee orders Luke back but he continues punching. In comes Doc who goes after Luke, surprising him with a clothesline. Luke goes down as the ref goes to free Gordy. Butch comes in and knees Williams in the back, sending him outside the ring. Butch follows out and rams “Dr. Death’s” head into a ring post. Back in the ring, the ref has freed Gordy, but he’s in bad shape. Luke has recovered from the clothesline and picks Gordy up, piledriving him hard into the mat. Cover, 1.....2..... but somehow, he kicks out before three. Luke goes to back suplex Gordy, bit Bam Bam spins out and lariats Luke! Tag to Doc who comes in a house of fire on the Herders! The ref loses control as all four men are in now. Shoulder tackle by Doc sends Butch out if the ring. Gordy grabs Luke for a piledriver as Doc climbs the turnbuckles...... spike piledriver to Luke! 1......2.......3! Doc and Gordy advance!
Jim Ross: "WHAT A SLOBBERKNOCKER WE JUST WITNESSED! NEITHER ONE OF THOSE TEAMS CARE WHO YOU ARE..... THEY WILL DAMNED SURE FIGHT YOU! FANS, WE ARE GETTING DOWN TO THE NITTU GRITTY OF THIS TOURNAMENT! NEXT WEEK ITS THE FINAL FOUR TEAMS! WHOS GOING TO WIN THE OPEN??"
