ReDragon! The fans are in near riot mode as ReDragon who represent Undisputed Era in AEW, make their way to the ring as the announcers talk about the heinous attack by Undisputed Era to Kris Statlander recently. Then the jeers quickly turn to cheers as their opponents come out......
Bret & Owen Hart! The Nashville crowd gives e the Hart Brothers a nice ovation as the introductions are made and it's time for the opening contest of The Open to begin!
Bret & Owen Hart vs ReDragon Bret and O’Reilly start things off with a quick exchange of holds that ends with a dropkick by Bret. Tag to Owen, who lifts Kyle on his shoulders before a double team gets Owen a nearfall. Owen locks up Kyle but takes a knee as Fish is tagged in. Owen sends Fish out of the ring, but is blocked by Kyle before he tries a dive. Fish takes advantage by running right into Owen..... Muy Thai knees and a snap mare followed by a senton off the ropes for a nearfall. Tag to Kyle and a double team into a double suplex for a nearfall. Tag to Fish again and they double team Owen some more before Fish gets a nearfall. Owen fights back with a chop twice over but is blocked by Fish as the announcers discuss that ReDragon has to have the experience advantage in this match because of Owen and Bret competing in singles matches as of late.
Owen fakes Fish out before hitting a snap DDT and goes for the tag…but Kyle cuts him off, dropping Bret off the apron! Owen and Kyle exchange holds as Owen gets to the bottom rope to break the hold wherecwe see Adam Cole has made his way to ringside.
Cole gets onto the apron, distracting the ref as Fish rams Owen into the barricade. Back inside, Fish hits a back suplex for a nearfall. Owen in the corner as Fish charges, but Owen blocks it only to be lifted up by Fish.... Owen gets out, hitting a Lariat! Hot tag to Bret as Kyle tags in, and Bret unloads a flurry of offense looking for a deadlift German suplex but Kyle blocks it. Kyle charges at Bret but gets lifted into a modified exploder by Bret who hits a Russian legsweep for a nearfall. Owen sends Fish outside and they double team Kyle for a nearfall. Dive through the ropes by Owen as Bret looks for the Sharpshooter …but Kyle gets a guillotine body scissors on Bret! Bret manages to get the strength to lighten the pressure as Owen goes to help but is stopped by Fish, who chops Bret down. Kyle lifts Bret up and they hit Chasing the Dragon as Kyle goes for the cover, 1......2...... Bret gets a foot on the bottom rope! They go for it a second time but it’s blocked as Owen is tagged in. Owen unloads on both Fish and O’Reilly, but Kyle hits a cross arm breaker until Owen gets out getting a hold of the leg of Kyle. Outside the ring, Adam Cole drops Bret down hard with a superkick as Fish and O’Reilly hit stereo roundhouse kicks followed by a Total Elimination on Owen! Cover by Fish.....the ref won't count.....saying that O'Reilly is the legal man! Cole gets on the ringapron arguing with the ref. This gives Owen time to run and hit a running dropkick on Cole that sends him to the floor! O'Reilly charges Owen, who backbone drops him over the top rope to the floor as well. Bret grabs Fish as Owen climbs the turnbuckles.....Bret sets up for the Russian legsweep as Owen flies off with a Muscle dropkick to Fish for added impact! 1......2.......3!!! Bret and Owen advance to the second round!
Joey Styles: "OH MY......GOD! The first match of the tournament and we have what many will claim to be our first upset of the tournament! Hello everybody.....I'm Joey Styles! I will be calling the action tonight along with a man who knows a thing or two about Tennessee..... the home of the USWA....... LANCE RUSSELL!' Lance Russell: "Thank you Joey ..... it's always a pleasure to call all the great action here in the great state of Tennessee! And it's an honor to be here with you and all of these great fans!" Joey Styles: "The honor is all mine my friend! What do ya say......lets get back to the action!" Match Two: The Midnight Express w/Jim Cornette vs The Samoan Wrecking Crew Umaga starts with Condrey and chops him down. Condrey dodges a bodypress and connects with one of his own for two. The Crew backs Condrey into their own corner, but bungle the attempted double-team and Rikishi falls to the floor. Umaga throws a chop with extra mustard. Everyone tags and Bobby Eaton goes off the top rope to ground Rikishi. Condrey locks on a chinlock while Cornette tricks Umaga into chasing him and whaps him with the tennis racquet unseen by the ref.
Sunset flip by Condrey gets two. The Samoans try another double-team and Condrey ducks again, knocking Rikishi to the floor. Eaton tags in and attacks with right hands. Condrey comes in and locks on a side headlock, but Umaga turns it into a back suplex to finally take over. Rikishi tags in and Condrey throws a dropkick and gets the hell out of there, sensing he needs a fresh man in. Eaton cradles Rikishi for two. The Midnight Express do the switch behind the referee’s back, and Cornette convinces the crowd to lie for him when the referee asks about it.
Midnights are taking turns with a side headlock. Rikishi sends Eaton into the ropes and connects with a right that knocks him silly. But Rikishi manages to make a tag behind Bobby’s back and Umaga just waffles him to take over. Chops by Umaga then he applies the Samoan nerve hold. They gang up on Eaton while the referee gets distracted by an argument with Jim Cornette. Rikishi takes his turn with the nerve hold.
Eaton fights free and goes for a hiptoss, but he’s too weak and Rikishi easily blocks it and turns it into a clothesline. Umaga chokes him in the corner, but Eaton comes back swinging and hot tags Condrey All four men end up in the ring. Midnights ram the Crew into each other, but it actually revives them, to the shock of the Midnights. All four men brawl but the referee restores order again. Bad timing for Condrey, though, as he gets trapped in the Crew corner.
Rikishi goes to the nerve hold again. Eaton is fed up and breaks the hold just out of frustration. And now Condrey gets to hot tag Eaton, but he makes the mistake of noggin-knocking the Crew and they just beat the hell out of him. The Samoans continues having an off-night with their attempted double-teaming and both men get laid out. Condrey gets his second wind and kicks Rikishi out to the floor., Rocket launcher by the Express and Eaton covers Umaga, 1.....2......3!!! The Midnight Express advance!
Joey Styles: "The difference maker there, in my opinion was Jim Cornette!" Lance Russell: "Anytime that he's at ringside, you can bet he's going to be a distraction! What I'm wondering is what happens if the Express cross paths with Seth Rollins and Brian Pillman in this tournament? Where will he stand then?" Match Three: The Flying Tigers vs The Steiner Brothers Scott starts with #1 with a lockup. Scott goes for a takedown and gets it. Quick two count in a leglock, and again. Scott basically working a sort of Texas cloverleaf for a moment, gets another two count, Tiger 1 gets the ropes. Circle again, Scott with a front facelock into another single leg, but Tiger 1 takes him over from the bottom and they reset again.
Scott with a belly-to-belly slam as they look to tie up again. Tiger 1 flips out of a slam attempt, Scott off the ropes, but he runs into a heel kick from Tiger 1, who then clotheslines Scott out to the floor and fires up for the crowd. Tiger 1 taunts Scott from the ring. Scott comes back in and tags Rick, who runs a couple circles around Tiger 1 then 1 tags Tiger 2.
Tiger 2 takes Rick over with a side headlock and leg trip. Staying in the headlock, Tiger 2 sent off the ropes, Rick drops down, Rick leapfrogs, and tries to leapfrog again but gets caught in a powerslam for a quick count. Off the ropes, Tiger 2 hits a big running bulldog. Rick off the ropes, MASSIVE lariat from Tiger 2 who tags out.
Tiger 1 goes for a single leg, Rick blocks him and tags Scott, holding Tiger 1 in a front facelock for Scott to come in and kick him in the gut. Pumphandle slam from Scott. Tiger 1 placed on the top turnbuckle, Scott climbs up, and hits a super Samoan drop.
Tag to Rick. Face-first slam in the corner. Tiger 1 off the ropes, he meets the Steinerline and Scott is tagged back in. Scott hits the spinning belly-to-belly suplex and gets a two count. Tiger 1 with a shot to the gut, a chop to the chest, but Scott fires back with a right hand and hits a DDT. Tag to Rick.
Rick lifts Tiger 1 and places him on the top rope. Rick hits a belly-to-belly and gets a count that Tiger 2 busts up. Scott tagged back in, and they double team Tiger 1 for a moment, setting up another two count. Scott now holding Tiger 1 on the canvas. Tiger 1 ducks a clothesline, hits a lariat of his own. Scott takes him down and tags to Rick. Rick hits a release German and laughs. Knee to the gut from Rick, right hand to the head, and he tags Scott again. Rick holds Tiger 1 for Scott, who hits a snapmare and grabs a chinlock. Tiger 1 fights up and hits an overhead belly-to-belly! Scott recovers enough to hold Tiger 1 down and tag out to Rick, who comes in with a headlock/armbar combo to keep Tiger 1 grounded. Rick rolls him around a little and grabs a gutwrench, now they’re up and grapplin’. Rick with a knee, but Tiger 1 takes him down and sets for it — airplane spin! Scott comes in and interferes before the ref sends him back to the apron.
Tag to Scott, double underhook, and the power bomb! 1..... 2...... Tiger 2 breaks the pin. He’s desperate to get into the ring here, with #1 reeling. Scott tags Rick and they look to double team Tiger 1 but he fights back, hitting a uranage suplex on both Steiners, first Rick and then Scott, and he gets the hot tag to Tiger 2!
Tiger 2 in with dropkicks and a powerslam for Rick, Scott breaks the count at two and pummels Tiger 2 but the ref forces Scott back out and Tiger 2 hits an Oklahoma stampede powerslam. Tag and Tiger 1 goes up top, and Tiger 2 superplexes his partner down onto Rick! 1.....2......3! The Tigers win!!!
Lance Russell: "How about that for an upset? The Tigers with a huge win there to advance!" Joey Styles: "The Steiners....as great as they are.... are eliminated early. Could the ring rust been a factor? We haven't seen much out of them or Terminus in quite a while. Nonetheless.....The Tigers advance and will be a handful going forward!" Match Four: Rocky Johnson & Tony Atlas vs The Young Bucks The Bucks waste no time in attacking Johnson and Atlas early on. Johnson shitcans both of the Bucks and he and Atlas gets Matt alone in the ring. Matt comes out on top with a Too Sweet to the eyes and RUNNING SUCK-IT LARIATS INTO THE CORNERS. Johnson catches Matt on a body splash and throws him into a Tony Atlas press slam. Nick blindsides them with a double crossbody! The Bucks hit stereo 3 Amigos much to the happiness of the crowd. Atlas tags in and mocks him, and the Patrol takes control. Matt dives out on top of Atlas with a dropkick, and they knock Johnson off of the apron with the headscissors/dropkick. This allows the Bucks to take control. Atlas counters an Abdominal Stretch with a facebuster, but he takes the back handspring back rake for his troubles. Assisted slice bread scores, and a knee gets a two count. Atlas counters Poetry in Motion by giving Matt a spinebuster onto his brother. Atlas jumps off of Nick and hits Matt with a cutter! Johnson tags in and cleans house for a bit, hitting a double suplex on the Bucks. Atlas runs and assists Johnson with a diel suplex and dives out on top of Nick! Johnson catches a slingshot X-Factor, and Nick finds himself on the apron. Johnson BUM RUSHES HIS BODY INTO NICK! BULLDOG FROM ATLAS INTO A WHEELBARROW SUPLEX! JACKNIFE INTO AN AIR RAID CRASH…BUT HE RUNS INTO A SUPERKICK! Atlas tags in and dukes it out with Matt and get the advantage but earns a knee to the back from Nick. Atlas and Matt throw hard right hands and Matt tells him to suck it before each one. Nick pulls Atlas out of the ring, and Johnson pulls Matt out of the ring, which lets Johnson and Nick duke it out. Nick hits a running knee in the corner and Johnson eats a superkick from Matt after countering one from Nick. Atlas hits Nick with an dropkick! DOUBLE DROPKI KS FROM THE PATROL, 1.....2..... MATT JACKSON KICKS OUT! Patrol looks for a double piledriver on Matt, but Matt slips out and THE BUCKS SUPERKICK JOHNSONS KNEES AND DROP ATLAS ON HIS HEAD! SUPERKICK TO JOHNSON! ATLAS KICKS OUT OF A PINFALL! The Patrol finagles its way out of More Bang, and the Bucks hit Stereo Low Blows! Slingshot X Factor on Atlas! TORNADO DDT ON THE FLOOR TO JOHNSON! MELTZER DRIVER!!! 1......2.......3!! The Bucks advance!
Joey Styles: "The Bucks with an impressive victory! They have been on quite a roll since arriving in AEW. And now they go into Ladder Wars tomorrow night with a chance to become the AEW tag team champions!" Lance Russell: "Love em or hate em....the Bucks always find a way to win. And overcoming the huge size differential here tonight will only boost their confidence going forward in this tournament! But right now we find ourselves halfway through tonight's action and before we can continue we are going to see the IWA World TV champion, Manny Fernandez defending against the #9 contender...... The Masked Superstar!" Match Five: Manny Fernandez vs Masked Superstar for the IWA World TV title This starts out as the two meet face to face in the middle of the ring and start jaw jacking with each other! They exchange punches and then go into a series of moves and counter moves which the crowd appreciates as they are cheering both men! MANNY starts taking advantage as he executes some high flying moves which ends with him drop kicking MS out of the ring!
As MANNY soals up the cheers,SUPERSTAR paces on the outside until returning to the ring at the count of 8 ! They lock up and a mhard knee to the gut takes the wind outta MANNY as he drops to the mat!
The next several minutes are all SUPERSTAR as he beats down the champ with some aggressive moves but nothing to warrant anything close to being illegal! SUPERSTAR catches MANNY in a bear hug and after several tense minutes MANNY breals the hold and starts to get back into the match!Now several chops to the chest stagger the challenger!
As MANNY moves in for the kill,SUPERSTAR eye rakes the champ,body slams him and then applies the cobra sleeper! MANNY is struggling with this but with then crowd supporting him ,he manages to push the two backwards into the corner a few times and eventually breaks the hold! Both men are stunned and MANNY staggers to his feet first!
As SUPERSTAR slowly gets up,MANNY rebounds off the ropes and hits his flying forearm! Three seconds later and MANNY gets the pin and successfully retains his WORLD TV Title!
The crowd pops big as MANNY holds the title high and turns to the crowd! Not paying attention,MANNY is easy prey as OLE ANDERSON runs in and jumps the champ!
With the champ stunned,OLE goes over and grabs SUPERSTAR and pummels him before tossing him outta the ring! OLE turns his attention to the champ and starts pounding away before applying an arm bar and tries to wrench the Champ's arm outta his socket!
As he cranks on MANNY'S arm,the SUPERSTAR has recovered and returned to the ring and starts pounding the shit outta OLE, who eventually high tails it out of there and goes to the back!
MANNY slowly gets up,still very cautious of SUPERSTAR who just stares at the champ and leaves!
Match Six: Chris Adams and Terry Taylor vs FTR W/Dan Lambert Dax Hardwood stalled early on by going to the floor and gets last minutr advice from Dan Lambert. Back inside, Chris Adams nailed some chops to work over Hardwood and he brought in Terry Taylor, who did a double knee attack into a Adams clothesline. Hardwood got in there, but he was met by a Adams dropkick. All four guys got in the ring until the FTR went to the floor. Adams took out Hardwood with a dive while Taylor did a running knee attack off the apron onto Wheeler on the floor. More stalling by the FTR although it worked because Hardwood nailed a back suplex for two. The GFW champs continued to work over Taylor in their corner. Taylor kicked his way free and went for the tag, but Wheeler pulled Adams off the apron. Double team front suplex spot by FTR gets two. Taylor with a jawbreaker on Wheeler. He wasn’t able to make the tag, though because Lambert distracted the ref, Adams got the tag and the ref made him stay out. FTR got a nearfall on Adams soon after. Huge clothesline by Wheeler as the match has gone past the 12-minute mark at this point. Taylor avoided an attack by Wheeler in the corner and avoided a Hardwood attack. Tag to Adams!
Adams was on fire after the hot tag with a great rolling kick to Hardwood and a neckbreaker for two. Taylor kicked Wheeler and nailed a spear on Hardwood for two as we see Gino Hernandez making his way to ringside.
Lambert argues the fact that he doesnt like Gino being at ringside. Wheeler tagged in and got a DDT for a two count. Taylor tagged in and applied a suplex then applied the Figure four. Hardwood was able to make the save. Adams with a Superkick on Wheeler as the ref tries to get Hardwood out of the ring, Gino slides a chair inside. Adams looks down at it.....and Taylor rushes in and grabs it and nails Wheeler with it. Taylor covers, 1.....2......3! Adams and Taylor advance.
Joey Styles: "What the..... some strange things happening with this team of Terry Taylor and Chris Adams. Especially since Gino has arrived and been in their ear as of late." Lance Russell: "Well he has went on record and told Adams and Taylor that they need to get dirtier in their game. And so far, it's worked for them. But my question that nobody seems to be asking is..... what's in this for Gino?" Match Seven: Blue Chip U vs What Wrestling Should Be w/Jim Cornette Rollins hooks a side headlock on Swagger before wrenching the arm. Swagger gets out and punches Rollins down. Rollins rolls out of the ring to recover. Brian Pillman comes over and talks strategy with him and Cornette. They collect themselves, and Pillman tags in. Pillman applies a waistlock, but Swagger takes him down. Swagger jabs away at Pillman in the corner, taking him down. Swagger forearms Pillman in the face until Pillman hits the ropes, but Swagger shoulder blocks him down. Big E tags in and punches away at Pillman, beating him down in the corner before taunting Rollins. Big E scoop slams Pillman and hits a slingshot elbow drop for a two count. Big E puts Pillman back in the corner and tags Swagger in who hits a snapmare and attacks the back before kicking him in the chest. Swagger drops an elbow for a near fall. Swagger takes Pillman down with a side Russian Leg Sweep for a two count. Big E tags in and punches away at Pillman. Big E hits a backbreaker for a near fall. Swagger tags in, and Pillman flips through a back suplex. Swagger punches him back, and Rollins blind tags in. Swagger tries to fight him off, but they take Swagger down with a double-team back elbow. Rollins stomps away at Swaggee in the corner before backing up and taunting the crowd. Pillman tags back in, and they whip Swagger to the corner. Pillman whips Rollins into Swagger but Swagger gives him a back body drop out of the ring. Pillman goes for a missile dropkick, but Swagger sidesteps him. Swagger then sends Pillman out of the ring. Cornette huddles up Seth and Pillman and tries calming them down. Then out comes The Midnight Express! The Express question Cornette about being out here with Seth and Pillman. The ref makes the Express return to the dressing room area before they can get their answer.
Big E DDTs Pillman. Rollins tags in, and E takes him down for a frog splash to pick up a near fall. Pillman soon tags in, but E punches and chops him back. E hits the ropes, but Pillman hits a jumping calf kick for a near fall.
Rollins tags in and goes for a Pedigree, but E hits a back body drop. Rollins lands on his feet, so E hits a Pop-up Powerbomb for a near fall. Pillman tags in and kicks E before putting him on the top rope. Pillman goes for a superplex, but E fights it and head-butts him. E hits a front suplex off the ropes followed by a Swanton Bomb, 1.....2..... but Rollins breaks it up. E throw Rollins out of the ring and hits a summersault senton. E gets back in the ring, and Pillman hits him with a running knee. Big E avoids a Stomp from Rollins. E goes for a Stunner on Pillman, but Pillman shoves him off. E gives Rollins a Stunner, and Pillman immediately rolls him up with the tights for the win. Seth Rollins and Brian Pillman advance.
Lance Russell: "And we thought the situation between Chris Adams and Terry Taylor was bizzare? There's definitely some friction in camp Cornette!" Joey Styles: "There may be Lance, but the fact if the matter is, that Cornette has guided both his teams into The next round! And you just know that has to put a smile on Mama Cornette's face!" Match Eight: Ricky Steamboat and Junkyard Dog vs The Painmakers The Painmakers storm the ring and attack before the bell. And after some brawling the ref regains control and Ultimate Warrior and JYD will start off. JYD Shows some power by shoulderblocking Warrior out of the ring. And Warrior instantly jumps back on and the next few minutes of the match consists of JYD and Wzrrior fighting. Awesome interferes from the outside and JYD winds up being double-team in the Painmaker corner. Awesome tags in and JYD misses a charge to his own corner, but makes the hot tag to Steamboat a few moments later. Steamboat pairs off with Awesome and JYD takes out Warrior. Steamboat picks up Warrior for a slam, but Awesome comes in behind the referee’s back and dropkicks them over. Warrior falls on top of Steamboat and gets the pinfall.
Joey Styles: "We didn't see alot of finesse in that one. And I don't think many expected to. But in my opinion, The Painmakers could be the sleeper team in this tournament. " Lance Russell: "I have to agree Joey! They are a force to reckon with.... I'll tell ya that right now! But right now, it's time for our Main Event of the night...and what a match it should be!" The team of Black Wallstreet make their way to the ring game and once they hit ringside they instantly start arguing with any fan that will even look their way! BWS are angry and as usual in a foul mood as they enter the ring.
Then The Kings of Wrestling make their way to a huge ovation as we are set for our Main Event of the evening!
Main Event: Kings of Wrestling vs Black Wallstreet Bad News and Chris Hero start. Tie up, and Hero gets the side headlock. Works the headlock for a little bit before a tag to Claudio. Irish whip on Bad News. Claudio goes for the leapfrog but Bad News powerslams him from midair! 2 count. Double team moves from the Wallstreet. Tag to Hero. Bad News still the legal man. Taking it to Hero AND Claudio (on the apron), but eventually Hero gets the advantage after a tag to Claudio. Repeated elbow drops to a downed Bad News Tag to Hero. Double team leg split. Big senton from Hero! Rams head into Claudio’s boot and another tag. Boots in the corner from Claudio. Chicanery from Hero with the ref’s back turned. Avalanche splash from Claudio in the corner. Kings go for a double boot on Bad News, but he blocks it and takes them out! He needs the tag! He’s almost there, but Hero dropkicks Butch Reed in the knees and he drops off the apron before a tag! Big Swing in the ring and Hero gets the dropkick to the swinging Bad News head. Springboard European uppercut while hero held Bad News up for in the Hart Attack position! Lance and Joey say it's clear to see the Kings of Wrestling game plan by neutralizing Bad News from tagging Reed.
Hero chokes Bad News. Goes for the Death Blow but reversed into a backslide. Bad News hits the Ghetto Blaster out if desperation. But he’s in the wrong corner. Hero makes the tag. Bad News dives across the ring and Butch Reed in for the first time. Reed takes it to Claudio. Running knee gets 2. Leg lariat to Claudio! Reed knocks Hero off the apron and gets a 2 count on Claudio. Uppercuts from Claudio vs. strikes from Reed. Double Irish Whip on Hero, who holds onto the top rope. Springboard backflip off the top rope from Hero misses! Total Elimination from Wallstreet! Big European uppercut on Reed from Claudio. Tag to Hero. Double team sitout powerbomb from the Kings, 1......2.....but it’s broken up. Hero brawls with Bad News. Goes for the spinning elbow but Reed intercepts with a flying shoulder tackle All four men in the ring. Referee tries to get Bad News out of the ring while Claudio lifts Reed up for a vertical suplex, but drops him into a Death Blow from Hero into a European Uppercut from Claudio!! 1….2…..3!!! The Kimgs of Wrestling advance!!!
Lance Russell: "How about that Joey? The Kings of Wrestling have just defeated the former world tag team champions to advance in this tournament!" Joey Styles: "OH....... MY.......GOD! Forget the upset of the tournament..... that may be the upset of the year! This place is going nuts and The Kings of Wrestling are going into next week with huge momentum! Fans..... we will see you tomorrow night for the second half of the opening round of The Open!"
