AEW presents .... '99 In the Shade'

The new AEW announce team, Joey Styles and Pat McAfee welcome all of us to the biggest ‘End of Summer Party’ as AEW presents 99 IN THE SHADE!

’The Machine’ BRIAN CAGE won a 6 man Ladder match also including DAMIEN PRIEST, MIRO, X-PAC, ALEISTER BLACK, and JON MOXLEY w/ Paul Heyman to win the vacant AEW TNT title
PRIEST and MIRO team up to put BRIAN CAGE through the ringside table and take him out of the match for awhile …. There is a point in the match where everyone is down and JON MOXLEY nearly pulls down the TNT title but CM PUNK comes out and attacks him …. PUNK hits the GTS, then he picks MOXLEY up and hits a 2nd one!   …. MOXLEY is out of the match …. X-PAC is the first man up, and he climbs the ladder and nearly pulls the title down only to be stopped by DAMIEN PRIEST …. Chaos ensued at the end as PRIEST was close to grabbing the title but CAGE got back up and powerbombed PRIEST off the ladder and through a table on the floor, then climbed up and pulled the title down to win ….


POST MATCH: KURT ANGLE's music hits and the Olympic Gold Medalist comes out for a stare down with CAGE ....


THE OUTSIDERS (Scott Hall & Kevin Nash) def. THE A-LIST (John Morrison & The Miz) w/ Alexander Hammerstone, Maryse & Taya Valkyrie to retain the AEW tag team titles
Both X-PAC and HAMMERSTONE got involved in this one, leading to HAMMERSTONE laying X-PAC out with the Nightmare Pendulum …. This ended up with a nice big man stand-off between NASH and HAMMERSSTONE, but HALL low blowed HAMMERTSONE and NASH took him out with the Jackknife …. MORRISON took NASH out with the Flying Chuck but HALL shoved MORRISON off the top to the floor …. HALL and MIZ were left as the only 2 men standing and HALL pinned MIZ after the Razor’s Edge to retain ….


KAZUCHIKA OKADA def. WALTER
This one had a big fight feel 2nd only to ROUSEY and FLAIR as this was a smart wrestling fans dream match …. The match was very stiff as both guys laid their shit in very snug, with OKADA working Japanese strong style and WALTER being WALTER …. Fans chanted ‘THIS IS AWESOME!’ pretty much the entire match and they didn’t care who won …. They put on a killer match that saw WALTER succumb to OKADA but it took 3 Rainmakers to put him away …. Both men received a standing ovation after the match ….


CHARLOTTE FLAIR def. RONDA ROUSEY to win the AEW Women’s title
This one had the biggest fight feel of the night as this match has been almost 2 years in the making …. The style went from mat wrestling to brawling and back and forth as these two beat the shit out of each other for 30 minutes …. CHARLOTTE focused her attack on the knee of ROUSEY while ROUSEY continued to go for submissions to FLAIR’s arm …. The match approached the 30 minute time limit, CHARLOTTE was able to get ROUSEY in the Figure Four in the middle of the ring, but was unable to bridge into the Figure 8 due to the injured arm …. ROUSEY was able to hold on without tapping, and was saved by the bell as the time limit expired to a chorus of boos from the crowd ….

Here is where things got interesting …. ROUSEY grabbed the title and left the ring, but CHARLOTTE grabbed the mic and berated ROUSEY, asking if she wanted to take the cheap way out …. If CHARLOTTE had 30 more seconds ROUSEY would have tapped out …. CHARLOTTE asked for 5 more minutes, and ROUSEY was so pissed that she agreed!  

ROUSEY hit the ring again and dominated the next 5 minute period, beating the shit out of CHARLOTTE …. ROUSEY used a chair on CHARLOTTE’S arm, putting her arm inside and then slamming the chair into the ringpost!  ROUSEY hit Piper’s Pit, then tried to finish CHARLOTTE with the armbar!  CHARLOTTE resisted the move by locking her hands together, but ROUSEY eventually got it and CHARLOTTE was trapped in the middle of the ring!  CHARLOTTE refused to tap, and this time CHARLOTTE is saved by the bell!!!!  More boos from the crowd as the 5 minute extension has expired!  

The bell ringing didn’t stop ROUSEY, as she refused to release the armbar …. CHARLOTTE finally started tapping to try to get ROUSEY to let go, and finally the referee pulled ROUSEY off …. ROUSEY once again collected the title belt and went to leave, but once again she is called out by CHARLOTTE!!!!

CHARLOTTE – “COME BACK AND FINISH THE JOB!  5 … MORE … MINUTES!”  

ROUSEY couldn’t hide her shock that CHARLOTTE kept coming, but she was sick of CHARLOTTE’s shit so she came back to the ring ….

ROUSEY – “Ring the fucking bell!”

With ROUSEY on one leg and CHARLOTTE with only 1 working arm, they tore into each other again …. CHARLOTTE escaped the Piper’s Pit and chop blocked the injured knee, then hit Natural Selection!  ROUSEY tried to roll to the floor to safety, but CHARLOTTE hit a SKYTWISTER PRESS TO WIPE OUT ROUSEY!!!!  CHARLOTTE trapped ROUSEY’s injured leg in the ring steps and then kicked the steps into it …. Back in the ring, CHARLOTTE got the Figure Four but ROUSEY tried to get to the ropes …. CHARLOTTE stopped her and was able to bridge into the Figure 8!  ROUSEY finally tapped at 44:12!!!! ….




CODY RHODES w/ Brandi Rhodes def. 'American Dragon' DANIEL BRYAN
CODY proved a man of his word, working a clean wrestling match .... These guys truly were just out to prove who was the better wrestler .... However, it was BRANDI that would get involved in the match, tripping BRYAN as he was on the top rope preparing for the top rope headbutt and causing him to crotch himself on the top rope!  CODY was down and didn't see this, and he recovers in time to hit BRYAN with the Cross Rhodes to get the 3 count ….

POST MATCH: The fans aren't happy about this, but CODY was unaware of BRANDI's actions that led to him winning ....


Before the main event, SHAWN MICHAELS cut a promo …. He said he wasn’t worried about following the women’s match because he is the main event and always goes on last …. He told the rest of the N.W.O to stay in the back and not get involved, and that he would beat ROCK on his own …. HBK addressed his impending world title shot against RIC FLAIR, saying he hoped that FLAIR would be watching ….


STEEL CAGE MATCH FOR THE AEW HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE:
(Champion) ‘The Heartbreak Kid’ SHAWN MICHAELS def. THE ROCK to retain
The cage is the size of a Hell in a Cell cage but has no door .... Late in the match, THE ROCK appeared to have the match and the title won, but HALL & NASH managed to get their hands on the cage controls and raise it!  HALL & NASH got in under the cage, but ROCK fought them off only to get hit with Sweet Chin Music from HBK!  ROCK KICKS OUT!  DANA WHITE is out to instruct the cage to get lowered back down, and ROCK avoided another Sweet Chin Music and planted HBK with the spine buster .... the crowd was on it's feet in anticipation of a new champion, but as ROCK hit the ropes for the People's Elbow, he was suddenly cut off with a clothesline from ... HHH????

HHH made his shocking debut, hitting THE ROCK with a Pedigree and laying HBK on top! The ref counted the 3 count and HBK retained the title ….

Fans showered the ring with trash as the cage was raised and HBK and HHH celebrated the fact that HBK is still the AEW champion …. The rest of the N.W.O came out to the ring, and THE ROCK ended up getting beat on some more, taking the Jackknife as well as the Razor's Edge .... The N.W.O stood tall to end the night ....

Putting that title on Cage was a great move. Hes gonna do big things in the fed

The fall of the A List continues. Would like to see a strong Morrison push after the fall out
