HIGHLIGHTS:

We see a recap of AEW #28:

• BRIAN CAGE violently attacked CM PUNK, laying him out with the Drill Claw …. PUNK would be carried out on a stretcher, putting his match tonight against JON MOXLEY in doubt
• Larter in the night, CAGE called out anyone to fight him, only to have that challenge accepted by none other than the returning KURT ANGLE! ….


HUGE pyro explodes from the stage and entranceway as 10,000 strong are on their feet in the AEW ‘Asylum’ in Southern California …. Mauro Renallo and Corey Graves join us ringside as LOS ANGELES … IS … ALL ELITE!


We are on the final stop before ’99 IN THE SHADE’ and the entire landscape of the IWA has changed as XWA has folded …. ROB VAN DAM, RICOCHET, EDGE, KEITH LEE, and even TNT champion FINN BALOR are no longer a part of the AEW roster …. But there are new additions and we will have some announcements regarding those new signings tonight ….


We kick off the show with DANIEL BRYAN coming out to the ring …. He was supposed to fight EDGE at ’99 in the Shade’, but now EDGE is gone …. He wants an opponent …. CODY RHODES returns and asks BRYAN for a rematch …. We haven’t seen CODY since his brutal bullrope match with BRYAN …. CODY appears to have changed his tune and he puts BRYAN over and then offers him a straight up wreslting match …. CODY offers a handshake and BRYAN takes it ….


VIDEO PACKAGE:

We recap ‘The Machine’ BRIAN CAGE’s rampage on the last episode of AEW, where he attacked CM PUNK and KEITH LEE …. CAGE would be confronted by a returning KURT ANGLE to close the show, and both men brawled all over the arena …. Tonight KURT ANGLE vs. BRIAN CAGE is our main event .…”


DAMIEN PRIEST vs. CAMERON GRIMES
GRIMES comes out looking like a homeless man and it is clear that he is down on his luck since getting kicked out of the FREEBIRDS …. GRIMES is still wearing his wearing his discontinued ‘Badstreet USA’ merchandise, and he tries to sell some of the shirts to the fans at ringside …. He pimps out that he has a merchandise table out in the concourse next to the women’s restrooms …. He even tries to get PRIEST to buy one of the shirts off him, and MAURO claims there could be some copyright infringement going on …. The match is pretty much a squash, as it is clear that GRIMES is totally off his game …. PRIEST wins with the Reckoning ….


BACKSTAGE SEGMENT:

DANA WHITE is introduced as the new commissioner of AEW …. WHITE says soon you will see his fingerprints all over AEW, starting with ’99 in the Shade’ …. This is combat sports, not sports entertainment …. He has proved that by signing 2 of the top international stars that will meet at ’99 in the Shade’, and that is WALTER vs. KAZUCHIKA OKADA! .…”


Up next, we get an in-ring segment involving SHAWN MICHAELS & the N.W.O …. HBK talks shit about the ROCK and says that the last time you are gonna see the ROCK will be in the steel cage in OAKLAND …. After that he will go running off back to Hollywood to make another movie because in no universe can he hang with HBK in the ring …. HBK is here each and every night whether you love him or hate him and he doesn’t run …. He doesn’t need the N.W.O to beat the ROCK inside the cage ….

HALL takes the mic … ‘HEY YO!’ … HALL does his ‘little survey’ and says one more for the good guys before cutting a promo and talking about how RVD, RIDDLE & COBB are all gone from AEW …. X-PAC is gonna get his time to shine, but HALL & NASH have no one to fight so it looks like they have the night off ….

This brings out THE REVIVAL!  THE REVIVAL issue a challenge for the OUTSIDERS to face them for the belts, but before they can answer there is another interruption, this time from MIZ & MORRISON, THE A-LIST!  The A-LIST talk about how the AEW tag titles rightfully belong to them, and they want a shot at ’99 in the Shade’ …. This leads to a match tonight with THE REVIVAL vs. A-LIST and the winner will face the OUTSIDERS at ’99 in the Shade’!



THE REVIVAL (Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder) vs. THE A-LIST (John Morrison & The Miz) w/ Alexander Hammerstone, Maryse & Taya Valkyrie
The OUTSIDERS stay at ringside to watch this match, giving comedy guest commentary where they talk trash about both teams …. The women get involved in the match, but when WILDER confronts them HAMMERSTONE steps in between them …. HAMMERSTONE ends up causing the distraction that allows MIZ to hit the Skull Krushing Finale on DAWSON and get the pin!  The A-LIST will now challenge THE OUTSIDERS for the tag titles at ’99 in the Shade’ ….

POST MATCH: MIZ & MORRISON talk shit to HALL & NASH, who just stand up from the announce desk and hold up their tag titles ….


BACKSTAGE SEGMENT:

QUINN MCKAY interviews former IWA Women’s champion ASUKA  .…

She asks ASUKA about losing the women’s title to BRITT BAKER after a long and bitter feud, but before ASUKA can speak she is interrupted by RHEA RIPLEY, who is making her AEW debut!  RIPLEY says that ASUKA is irrelevant because she isn’t a champion anymore …. RIPLEY cuts a promo and basically ignores the fact that ASUKA is standing there …. She says she is here to make an impact, and she wants to challenge the winner of the CHARLOTTE/ ROUSEY match ….  

ASUKA RESPONDS BY SPRAYING THE MIST IN RIPLEY’s FACE!!!!  ASUKA tells RIPLEY that when she can see again, meet her out in the ring tonight!  SHE IS NOT READY FOR ASUKA!!!! ….



MIRO vs. ALEISTER BLACK
This is a rematch from AEW #28, where MIRO forced BLACK to pass out while in the Accolade ….

BLACK unleashes strikes to begin the match, driving the more powerful Bulgarian back …. MIRO hits a powerslam to swing the tide, then starts working the back of BLACK …. BLACK battles back and wins with the Black Mass after a flurry of offense ….


We get a health update on CM PUNK with the official announcement that he is not medically cleared for his match against JON MOXLEY at 99 in the Shade …. This brings out MOXLEY and HEYMAN to the ring and MOXLEY talks shit about PUNK, saying that he has ended his career …. MOXLEY says PUNK was never good enough to carry the torch for anyone ….

‘CULT OF PERSONALITY’ hits and the fans pop …. Out on the stage come PUNK and he is wearing a neckbrace but it doesn’t look like he gives a fuck …. HEYMAN gets on the mic and tells PUNK to think this through …. He tells PUNK to think about his pretty wife sitting at home and not to come down that ramp …. This just pisses PUNK off, and he rips off the neckbrace and starts walking to the ring intending on fighting MOXLEY right now!!!!  However, before PUNK can make it to the ring an army of AEW officials, including DANA WHITE himself, come out and create a wall between PUNK and the ring ….  


RHEA RIPLEY vs. ASUKA
RIPLEY still has the remnants of mist on her face from being sprayed earlier …. She attacks, but ASUKA fights her off with strikes …. RIPLEY uses power to regain the advantage and ends up slamming ASUKA’s knee into the ring post repeatedly …. RIPLEY ignores the refs warnings and keeps slamming the knee into the post, leading to the ref stepping in and disqualifying RIPLEY ….

POST MATCH: RIPLEY continues the assault, locking ASUKA in the Prism Trap and refusing to let go!  Out of the back runs IO SHIRAI to make the save for ASUKA and RIPLEY bails out …. SHIRAI checks on her former friend, but ASUKA pushes her away …. Given their history, ASUKA doesn’t trust IO after she broke her arm in RSW 2 years ago!  ASUKA rolls out of the ring and has to be helped to the back because she can barely walk ….


IN THE BACK: DANA WHITE’S OFFICE –

DANA WHITE is in the back again …. The TNT title is sitting on his desk …. WHITE isn’t going to beat around the bush, everyone with a cell phone and the internet knows that FINN BALOR is no longer under contract with AEW …. WHITE says that we will crown a new TNT champion at ’99 in the Shade’ in a 6 Man Ladder War!!!!!  The first 5 people in the match will be MIRO, X-PAC, ALEISTER BLACK, DAMIEN PRIEST and BRIAN CAGE …. Since CM PUNK is not cleared to compete at ’99 in the Shade’, he is adding JON MOXLEY as the 6th man ….


KURT ANGLE vs. BRIAN CAGE
CAGE starts some tackles and uses his power, but ANGLE comes right back and hits 3 German suplexes …. ANGLE send CAGE to the floor with a clothesline, but CAGE turns the tables and hits an apron powerbomb and now he’s in control …. CAGE goes to the top rope, but ANGLE runs up the ropes and hits a top rope belly to belly out of nowhere and both men are down!  CAGE avoids the Olympic Slam attempt and hits a discus clothesline for a close 2 count!  He goe for the Drill Claw, but ANGLE slips out and gets the ankle lock!  CAGE fights out of it and hits Weapon X but once again ANGLE kicks out to a big pop!!!!  CAGE tries to pull the turnbuckle pad off, but ANGLE catches him from behind with the Olympic Slam!  CAGE kicks out at 2.99999!  Down come the straps, but as ANGLE tries to grab the ankle CAGE quickly hits a blatant low blow right in front of the ref for the DQ finish! ….

POST MATCH: ANGLE is down and CAGE finishes taking the padding off of the top turnbuckle …. BUCKLE BOMB ON ANGLE INTO THE UNPROTECTED BUCKLES!!!!  CAGE is going to give ANGLE the Drill Claw, but a bunch of AEW referees hit the ring and somehow prevent CAGE from doing it …. The show ends with CAGE standing tall over ANGLE ….
