Progress Wrestling #5

       
The show opens up with highlights from last week's Saturday Nights Main Event show......


Shawn staggers up , he side steps the Superkick and lands one of his own !!! Nick is up on the ring apron !!! Matt sneaks in the other side . The ref is trying to get Nick down ….. Matt and Cole hit a double Superkick on Shawn ! Matt rolls out of the ring . Nick jumps down . Cole covers just as the ref turns around ….. 1………2……..3 !!!


Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci rush the ring to pull Drew down, which led to Walter showing up with a steel chair. Walter hit McIntyre in the ribs and multiple chair shots to the back. Walter ordered Vinci and Kaiser to take Drew to the back, as Jim Ross states this has to stem from the recent challenge made by McIntyre to Walter.



Nakamura had Rollins on his shoulders and Nakamura hit a GTS from the ladder. Shinsuke climbed the ladder, the fans were cheering...... Shinsuke reached up and grabbed the title to end the match! Your winner, and first ever Progress Atlas Champion....... SHINSUKE NAKAMURA!!!!!!!











 Joey Styles: "HELLO EVERYONE.....AND WELCOME TO...... PROGRESS WRESTLING! I'm your host Joey Styles along with Pat McAfee, and from what I understand,  has something big to announce?"        

 Pat McAfee: "You better believe it pal! I'm here to let the Wrestling world know that before this show went on air, I was given a promotion! And your now looking at the new General Manager of Progress Wrestling!"            

  Joey Styles: "General Manager?? That's huge!"              

 Pat McAfee: "You want huge Joey Styles? I'll give you huge! You know just as well as I do that when your sitting in the broadcast booth we can hear all the people talking! And I'm here to accommodate the biggest questions going about Progress Wrestling! When are we getting more championship titles? Well I'm here to tell you that on July 8th, during the Great American Bash  in Glendale, Arizona we will have a 10 man tag team Guantlet match..... and the last team standing will become the Progress tag team champions!"        







  Joey Styles: "OH MY..... GOD!"              



 Pat McAfee: "Ohhhh we are just getting started Joey Styles! Not only are we going to crown tag team champions that night...... but starting right here on television next week, we will begin a eight man single Elimination tournament to crown the first ever Progress Heavyweight champion! And the finals of that tournament will also happen on July 8th at the Great American Bash!"  






  Joey Styles: "Look at you making waves and you have only been General Manager for 5 minutes! This is going to be........"          









  Kevin Owens: "I guess congratulations are in order! General Manager! That's big time! And I know what your thinking Pat! You think I'm out here to demand things. Like for instance..... a spot in that tournament to become Progress champion! And while being in that tournament would be great and all.... I have something else in mind. I want a match against El Generico pr whatever Sami Zaynes alter ego is this week!"      








 Sami Zayne: "Listen KO.... you want a match against El Generico..... that's on him! But I was really kinda sad to hear you mention my name too. I don't want to face you in a match..... instead.... I was hoping we could be partners in that tag team Gauntlet match!"            


  Kevin Owens: "Cut the crap Sami! Your not fooling anyone! Everyone knows that's you under that Generico mask!"            

 Sami Zayne: "How many times do I have to say it...... I'm not El Generico! Didn't you see him cost me my match against Adam Cole last week?"              

  Kevin Owens: "ENOUGH SAMI...... ENOUGH! I came out here looking for a fight!  And right now I really don't care if it's you or anyone else! But since your here...... General Manager...... what do you say?"        

 Pat McAfee: "I'm glad you asked because I have a great idea! Tonight's Main Event will be Kevin Owens against.......   Sami Zayne! With an added twist! If KO wins..... he's in the tournament to crown the Progress Heavyweight champion! But..... if Sami wins..... them Sami AND KO will team together in the tag team title Gauntlet match!"    


The crowd pops as KO and Zayne stare at each other as we head to break.

 Match One: The Lucha Brothers vs  Will Ospreay & Sammy Guevara              

Guevara started in there with Fenix, eventually grabbing hold of a leg, then a knuckle lock as Joey Styles begins to talk about the animosity between Guevara and Ospreay, yet Progress keeps teaming them together in matches. From a knuckle lock, Guevara and Fenix dazzle, switching around, kipping up and generally avoiding each other in a nice lucha sequence. Tags follow as Penta and Ospreay come in, but Ospreay offer of a handshake is seen as an insult, as Penta just “cero miedo”’s in his face… so Ospreay grabs a headlock and gets shoved into the ropes.

Another “cero miedo” is stopped by Ospreay, who throws a forearm before he ran into a superkick as the pair went back and forth. A forearm, a superkick and clotheslines keep the momentum finely balanced, before Guevara cut off Penta’s dive by hitting a crossbody onto Penta as Guevara snuck in a blind tag. Ospreay’s back in pretty quickly afterwards, as he and Sammy were taking the fight to the Lucha Bros.

An enziguiri from Ospreay’s good for a near-fall, but Fenix tries to turn it around, with Ospreay’’s headscissors going awry before Guevara saved it with a low dropkick from a backbreaker position. A second dropkick from Guevara gets a near-fall, before he’s taken into the corner as Ospreay and Guevara worked some pretty quick tags. A rather lax cover barely gets Ospreay a two-count as he perhaps had to up his game against Fenix, absorbing a chop before a pump kick earned Ospreay another near-fall. Eventually Fenix hit back as Sammy and Ospreay tried to double-team him, with a handspring double cutter putting them down before Penta came in and cleared house with clotheslines and a Slingblade.

The tables turn as Guevara held in the ropes for a chop from Penta, before Fenix threw one in too, with the Lucha Bros peppering him with superkicks, finishing with a stereo superkick and a wheelbarrow splash onto Guevara for a near-fall, with only Ospreay making the save to keep the match alive. Ospreay tries to fight back with chops of his own, but you can guess how this goes… he runs into some forearms before Penta and Fenix just torched him with chops!

Avalanche clotheslines and a jumping spin kick in the corner keeps the offence up, before Ospreay ate a lungblower and a flying double stomp for a near-fall. Ospreay throws Penta into the corner to stop Fenix from flying, as Guevara returned to the action, throwing Penta into a lungblower before he delivered a German suplex… and taking the Lucha Bros outside for dives!

Ospreay got a tope, as does Guevara as the barrage of topes barely knocked Penta and Fenix back a step. A top rope Asai moonsault from Guevara finally does it as he almost crashed into the guard rails. Back inside, Fenix is isolated as he took a missile dropkick version of a Total Elimination… 1......2..... but Penta broke up the pin with a solid kick, as he then trash-talked Guevara!That starts a chop battle, with Guevara standing up to those chops as he gave as well as received… until Penta caught him with a kick to the gut. Guevara escapes a package piledriver, but can’t avoid a Fenix dropkick, and to make matters worse, Fenix redirects a superkick as Ospreay got taken down. Ospreay recovered to hit a moonsault after Fenix’ had taken a Spanish Fly from Guevara … but Penta just breaks up the cover by stepping on it, using it as a springboard into a Destroyer on Guevara!

All four men were left laying after that as the crowd’s brief “THIS IS AWESOME ” chant subsided into chants of “Lucha! Lucha!”. On the apron, Fenix and Sammy trade forearms, then chops, before an enziguiri from Fenix and a Penta superkick knocked Guevara down. Ospreay’s left alone as he’s kicked, then met with a stuff package piledriver as a tope from Fenix ensured Guevara couldn’t break it up, allowing the Lucha Brothers to get the win.

Cameron Grimes vs Bryan Danielson w/William Regal                  

They exchange armdrags and dodge each other’s strikes. Danielson finally connects with a dropkick. Grimes avoids a plancha and chops Danielson into the front row. Grimes takes over in the ring until Danielson dropkicks him back to the outside. They battle on the apron. Grimes tries a dive to the floor but crashes shoulder-first into the barricade. Danielson uses this as an opening to work over the right shoulder. Grimes uses his good shoulder to come back with a shoulder tackle. He comes off the middle rope with a knee drop. They battle over a suplex and Grimes hits a fisherman buster. Danielson connects with a baseball slide and lands a springboard dive into the crowd. In the ring, Danielson connects with a missile dropkick and hits a northern lights suplex. He follows with a diving headbutt and locks in a crossface chicken wing. Grimes reaches the bottom rope. They battle on the middle rope and Grimes hits a bulldog. Grimes starts firing off superkicks. Danielson hits a saito suplex. Grimes pops up and connects with another superkick. Both men are down. Danielson hits a german suplex. Grimes lays in a series of chops and hits a german suplex of his own. Up top, Danielson hits a superplex. Grimes connects with another superkick and adds a lariat. He misses a moonsault and Danielson reapplies Cattle Mutilation. Grimes reaches the bottom rope. MMA elbows and another Cattle Mutilation gets the victory for Danielson! As the replay is being shown, Danielson takes the housemic......




 Bryan Danielson: "Yet another victory in another PROFESSIONAL  wrestling match by yours truly! I'm ranked #1 Contender to the Super Juniors title for a reason people! I am The Best in the World at what I do! I know alot of people like to toss that term around, but nobody does it better! You notice week in and week out, Chris Jericho is on some station talking about all his challengers..... but he doesn't bring my name up! Why you ask? Because he knows I will make him eat his words and take his title! This is twice I have invited Jericho to come here to Progress Wrestling and face me like a man! But instead, you people get ripped off and will see him.start the Bash tour off at Saturday Nights Main Event against Eddie Gilbert! So since Jericho is afraid to face the very best...... I will! Starting next week, and every week after, I will hold an open Invitation to anyone to face me in a professional wrestling match! All you have to do is show up..... and I will show you just who The Best in the World truly is!"

 Renee Young: "Welcome back guys! At this time I'm joined by the red-hot Shelton Benjamin! Shelton, your career has found new life since coming here to Progress Wrestling! And now on July 19th in Toronto,  you will be in the Gold Rush tournament against Eddie Guerrero in the first round!"            

 Shelton Benjamin: "That's a night I'm certainly looking forward to! You have eight of the best men going in that tournament. And to win it, gives anyone bragging rights and a shot at that NWA World tv title! An opportunity I'm not taking lightly! My goal is to win that tournament...... win that NWA World tv title..... and be the very best wrestler on tv!"        


In walks Carmello Hayes!




Carmelo Hayes: "Hold on, hold on here a minute! How can you be the best wrestler on tv.... when you aren't even the best wrestler in this room right now?"              

Shelton Benjamin: "Correct me if I'm wrong..... but I beat you!"              

Carmelo Hayes: "Even a broken clock is right twice a day! The fact of the matter is..... you got lucky! Once! You will never see the day, you can beat me again! Because we all know..... when Carmello shoots his shot..... he doesn't miss!"        

Shelton Benjamin: "Is that right? Somewhere right now I know the new GM, Pat McAfee, is listening! I would love nothing better than a warm up match before the Gold Rush tournament! Say you and me on July 8th at The Bash? Let's see just how good you are!"          




Shinsuke Nakamura vs Buddy Murphy for the Progress Atlas title      


Nakamura kicks Murphy right in the thigh to start things off. They do a test of strength but Nakamura decides to kick Murphy in the head instead. Murphy doesn’t give a clean break after a tie up and gets an armbar. Nakamura counters it like only he can and turns it into a headlock. Nakamura does his head in the stomach mocking and Murphy shoves him. That doesn’t go over well as Nakamura takes over. Murphy is in the corner and gets Good Vibrations twice. Nakamura talks to the ref and Murphy sees an opening to pull him into the turnbuckle. Murphy stomps Nakamura in the corner and then hits his face wash punch. He goes for a trio of pins, but Nakamura kicks out. Murphy hits some forearm shots, but Nakamura is unphased. Nakamura blocks a suplex and hit hits a right hand you wouldn’t believe. Nakamura then hits a series of kicks, followed by knee strikes in the corner. He hits his running knee into the ribs followed by the reverse exploder suplex. KINSHASA! Nakamura retains!






 Renee Young: "Shinsuke,  congratulations to you on not only becoming the first Atlas Champion, but your first successful title defense here tonight!"            

Shinsuke Nakamura: "Thank you! Huhe honor for me to wear this championship! I will be fighting champion to bring title the prestige it deserves!"                


This brings out.......





Samoa Joe: "I'm gonna make this short and sweet! I personally don't think your shit! You can come out here and talk about honor this and prestige that..... but until you can beat someone like me..... your nothing but talk!"                

 Shinsuke Nakamura: "You are big man! With even bigger mouth! You want a shot at my title? All yo had to do was ask! But since you didnt..... I challenge you to face me at Great American Bash!"

Adam Cole: "Its story time with Adam Cole..... BAY BAY For three weeks I sat in the back and watched that egomaniac Shawn Michaels on tv talking about his match against Randy Savage! All along, knowing he wasn't ready! I also knew HBK's ego would get the best of him! That's where I stepped on. And I went to Saturday Nights Main Event and played him like a drum! And I beat him for that opportunity to face Savage on night one of the Bash tour!

Which brings me to you Savage! I'm sure you expect me to trash talk you..... but I won't! Because my entire life growing up I watched you in amazement! You was my idol. True story! I thought there was nobody better than you. And I see the list of guys you have defeated since becoming the NWA National Champion! Some might even say that you have brought more prestige to that National title than the world title itself

Which saddens me! Because now I have to step into the ring against the man I grew up idolizing..... and beat him! And I can already hear the critics...... saying I have no chance against you Savage. But they all said the same thing about me beating HBK too! Make no mistake about it Macho Man..... your one of the best to ever lace up a pair of boots. But I'm Adam Cole..... BAY BAY! And something tells me that behind all those sparkly ring robes and sunglasses..... you have butterflies in your stomach..... because you have never faced anyone the caliber of Adam Cole before! So when we have our match to kick off the Bash...... bring all the pomp..... bring all the circumstance...... and bring me that NWA National title! Because once all the smoke clears and the ref counts 1-2-3..... and raises my arm in victory..... then the story of Adam Cole just begins! BOOM!"

 Main Event: Sami Zayne vs Kevin Owens                


Owens and Zayn immediately start brawling and Zayn quickly tosses Owens out of the ring. Zayn leaps over the top rope and takes out Owens. Zayn sends Owens back first into the ring barricade two times. Back in the ring, Owens bounces the jaw of Zayn off the top rope. Zayn rebounds with right hands and body shots to Owens. Owens drops Zayn face first off the ring apron and then tosses him shoulder first into the steel steps. The referee starts the count. Owens kicks Zayn right in the face on the steel steps.

Back in the ring, Owens with a big chop to Zayn. Zayn with elbows. Owens returns with an elbow of his own. Owens with a front suplex on Zayn bouncing him off the top rope and following it up with a quick splash for a two count. Owens with a high elbow and Zayn immediately returns with a clothesline. Zayn with another clothesline that levels Owens.  Zayn with right hands to Owens standing in the corner and then throws lefts and rights. Owens with a boot to the face on Zayn. Zayn returns with a Blue Thunder Bomb for a two count. Zayn with a traditional Blue Thunder Bomb and gets a very close two count on Owens. Owens cradles Zayn and drops him over his knee. Nearfall for Owens. Owens gets up on the top turnbuckle and connects with a huge frog splash. Owens hooks the leg of Zayn and Zayn kicks out. Owens with a cannonball to Zayn in the corner. Owens connects with a second cannonball. Zayn counters a Pop Up Powerbomb attempt with a dropkick. Zayn with a big hook back suplex on Owens and Owens immediately levels Zayn. The fans in go crazy. Zayn with a roll up for another close two count on Owens. Zayn springboards off the ropes attempting a tornado DDT and Owens counters dropping Zayn off his knee. Owens and Zayn exchanging shots. Owens with a kick to Zayn, Zayn with a back body drop and Owens lands back first over the ring apron. Zayn dives through the ropes in the corner and takes out Owens with a DDT on the outside! Back inside the ring, Zayn is firing himself up as Owens is getting to his feet. Owens catches Zayn with a superkick and the Pop Up Powerbomb. As KO goes to cover, we hear.....







And out comes El Generico!





KO locks eyes with the masked man at ringside. KO invites Generico in for a fight. This allows Sami to rise up...... and deliver a Helluva Kick to KO! Zayne grabs KO and rolls him up, 1......2........3!!!  



Joey Styles: "What did we just witness? Has Sami Zayne being shooting us straight this entire time? But wait...... if Sami isn't El Generico..... who is? And what's gonna happen to him when Kevin Owens gets his hands on him? OH....... MY GOD!"
